When to use a garlic press

Lately I've been using my garlic press for anything that calls for chopped, sliced or minced garlic. It's fast and easy, no garlic smell on your hands or cutting board and easy to clean up.

Do any of the cooks here think it makes much difference to your recipes if you press the garlic instead of chopping, slicing or mincing it?

It depends on what I'm going for and how much time I'm willing to spend. I often press it for the same reasons- quick and easy, and you still get the flavor! When I want a stronger garlic flavor, I might press half of it and slice the other half- I do love eating something and getting that bite of solid garlic. But I don't think pressing it ruins a recipe- just gives the food a garlic "flavor" as opposed to it being a very distinctive addition to the recipe. Of course, I do tend to double or triple the amount of garlic any given recipe calls for, haha. :blushing:

It makes really good clay hair too, if you're sculpting, or just want to revisit the fuzzy pumper barber shop with some play-doh

I have one and never use it. Instead, I smash the garlic with the blade of my knife and my hand... then peeling falls right off... and chop chop chop. Done.

I use it wherever I want lots of flavour and no pieces. Salad dressings mostly. For anything cooked or fried, I prefer my garlic in chunks....
