Frustrated by shoulder pain

I've been having terrible pain in my left shoulder when I lift my arm. For example, when I tried to do jumping jacks today and it hurt so much that I couldn't continue. At my doctor visit last week, she said it's most likely tendonitis and gave me a shot in the shoulder. She said to take it easy on moving it for a few days, which I did. But wow...it hurts so much I'm having trouble doing weights/exercise videos. I was hoping the shot would have helped, but I don't see any change.

Anyone have this? If so, what helped?

  • Hey there. Tendinitis has been an enemy of mine for a long time. As much as you probably hate to hear this, the key to getting passed it is rest! I would give it, at a minimum, two to three weeks before you put any strain on it. Then, when you do start back up, do a LOOOOOOOONG warm-up before starting your workout. I've found that extensive warm-ups are key, at least for me, in avoiding recurrences!

I know this is probably not what you want to hear! But, if you get creative, you can continue to exercise and work around the problem. Based on your description, it sounds like most upper body exercises are out of the question for right now. Take the time to focus on leg exercises and cardio moves that focus on lower body. You should also be able to do a good bit of core work without aggravating your shoulder.

Oh ... one more thing. I know this is gonna sound weird, but it has worked wonders for me. BEE POLLEN! You can get it at most health food stored. It really has made a difference for me and it has also helped several other people to whom I have suggested it!

Good luck! Feel free to friend me or hit me up if you have any related questions! Take care of yourself! Tendinitis can be a nasty issue if you don't take care of it!

REST REST REST...the shoulder joint is a very delicate joint....held together by 4 tendons and 4 ligaments -my anatomy fails me a little here-been a decade since I lasted studied it, lol. Anyway, its very delicate and if you continue to train through the pain you could injure yourself further making things worse. An injured shoulder tends to stay an injured shoulder. I still cant press dumbells or barbells over my head due to an injury I suffered during my bodybuilding days. Bottom line is, its just better to rest it and like Micheal said above, once you do feel you can train the joint again make sure to take a LLOONNNNGGG warm up, start slow and if there is any hint of pain, stop and get rechecked by your physician...its better safe than sorry.
