Weight Loss

I'm overweight and I'm trying to figure out what a healthy diest/lifestyle range would be to get to my goal weight. I'm 5'5" at 155lbs. I'm supposed to be under 150lbs to be at a "normal" weight. My goal weight is 130-140lbs. I struggle with binge eating and eating when I'm not hungry. I was under the impression (before I read all the feedback on this site) that in order to lose weight you need to eat less and exercise. I find it extremely disheartening that when I am not hungry I should eat anyways because my calories haven't been satisfied. What if I ate double the amount of calories I was supposed to eat yesterday and now I'm stuffed today because of it? Should I let my body digest and get back to normal and not eat as much because I'm so full from the day before? My main question is - how do I lose weight if I'm eating when I'm not hungry? This has never worked for me in the past...
BTW - I love food - probably too much. I've never struggled with anorexia or bulimia...only binge eating.
Also, I've seen comments in the past where people are belittled and judged for writing about their low calorie intake and I ask you please not to judge and please be respectful of myself and all the other people reading this who are struggling with the same type of thing.

I started on 1200 calories and it worked for me and I was able to do it in a healthy way.
I would say maybe you should write yourself out a meal schedule and eat 6 small meals a day. That way for a morning snack, for example, even if you aren't necessarily hungry, you also are not forcing yourself to stuff yourself. Eating smaller meals through the day seems like a good way to balance the need to eat and the not being hungry issue.
And, the only other thing I would say is that you don't have a ton to lose and you're not especially overweight.....so know it will be slow and steady. Don't get discouraged! A little bit of progress is better than no progress.0 -
Try and find food high in calories that are good for you- like natural nut butters, avocados, lean protein. You don't necessarily need to eat more- just eat higher caloric foods. At the end of the day, if I need calories, I'll have an apple with almond butter (one or two tbsp). I do three meals and two snacks. Rarely do I have issues with not eating enough calories.
Good luck!0 -
Whatever works for you is whatever works for you. Be sure you're not causing your body to eat muscle instead of fat. BMI measurements are notoriously incorrect for many people. At your height and weight I doubt you're legitimately overweight.
Something that may help for those binge moments is making sure you get your 2 liters a day. Your hypothalamus (the thing that tells you you're hungry or thirsty) doesn't differentiate between hunger and thirst. It just goes off like a siren. So when you get crazy hungry drink a glass of water and wait 15 minutes. If you're still hungry then you're legitimately hungry and should eat.0 -
This is a huge issue for me also. I struggle daily with this issue, but I have managed to loss 87 pounds (on another program) and have maintained with this program, (mostly because of cost I switched programs). I do try to eat 6 or more small meals a day and exercise every day which does help tremendously. I will also try to drink water when i am hungry to see if the "feeling" goes away. The last couple of days have been really rough for me, hopeful I am not going backwards. Please feel free to friend me if you need some support, I could also use some. I know this is rough, and really you don't have far to go, you can do this. You will feel so much better in the long run.0
