Most people here seem to be of the opinion that it is tough to do both at once....unless you are a real newbie to lifting. Fat loss demands cal deficit-- muscle growth demands surplus.... doing both would appear difficult in light of these facts. You can lose fat while minimizing muscle loss... cardio cardio and some lifting, the resulting definition will make your muscles look larger. Or you can build muscle by lifting often and mixing in some cardio- and cut fat later when you feel you have a muscle base to work with....

True. Generally I say lift while eating at maintenance until you stall and then decide. Should take around 3-4 months.

I'm currently going through the same thing. I do 2-3 days of pure cardio to help my defecit to cut...but then I also do 3-4 days of weight lifting to maintain muscle and tone.

This is helping my body retain a good shape while also seeing small dips in the scale. I've been doing this for 70 days and lost 11 pounds so far while getting toned and losing inches.

I'm happy with my results but I do know that if I cut out strength training and droped my defecit more, I could probably cut faster...this is just an easier way for me because it isen't as stressful.

Why would you stop strength training? How about just a greater deficit only?

I am just in the middle of doing that. Lost 10% body fat in 2 months and 16 pounds but did not loose much muscle, I even bulked up. I increased my proteins decreasing fat by a lot and eat really clean while training mostly strenght 4 days a week and cardio periods also on those 4 days. Then 2 home cardio such as jogging or high intensity cycling.

^ I think this advice is plenty reasonable given the individual doesn't have a physique in which the choice to cut or bulk is blatantly obvious.
