I have been on MFP for 10 days and have lost 3 lbs. I weigh myself everyday to keep a tally of how I' m doing. I drank more water yesterday than normal (lots more) and kept my diet as planned but I gained .6 lbs. How do I keep this water weight off?

Lots of things can cause you to retain water. Too much sodium, time of the month... But not actually drinking water oddly enough.

Those .6 lbs probably aren't a real gain. The amount of water your body retains is going to vary all the time. If you are keeping a record of your weight every day, you'll notice that the number will go up and down. As long as the trend is downward though, you are losing real weight (i.e. fat) and don't need to worry about the water weight changes. Try keeping a five day average of your weights or else graphing them with a trendline on the graph -- those two methods have allowed me to relax about temporary gains from water retention and concentrate on the real losses.0
