What happens to stretch marks?

I have faint reddish stretch marks on my stomach. Will these go away as I near my goal weight? I'm also very scared of losing the weight and having large amounts of loose skin. What can I do to help prevent this? Am I just hooped?? :embarassed:

I'm 5'8 and my start weight was 250 lbs. My current weight is 225 lbs and my goal weight is the second that I'm no longer obese or overweight (264.5 lbs).

Being at a healthy weight with loose skin is a lot better than being obese with tight skin

^ This is where I'm at, and really it's not that horrible. I still look good in clothing, so I can deal. Stretch marks will probably never go away, but I'm tanning to try to diminish the appearance. I use lots and lots of lotion and drink gallons of water to help with the loose skin. My doc says it may take a year or more.

I have a LOT of stretch marks......everywhere. My legs, my tummy, my brest even my arms. I got unlucky at genetic lottery. That being said, it never stopped me from being the best I can be. I even wore a bikini in public last summer.

Lose they weight, drink plenty of water, let your body do it's thing.

I'm in the same situation, I've been eating a lot and strength training to lose weight slowly, loose skin isn't an issue for me yet. My stretch marks are very very faint compared to the huge purple fissures they were.

Oh yea I drink 1 gal + of water every day too

Stretch marks fade to silver. The red is actually torn skin under the surface skin and areas of vascularization from growing new skin underneath because your skin didn't fit the flesh underneath. Balloons get them too.

When you stop growing and start shrinking it heals and you have scar tissue left sometimes or, if you're lucky, it completely goes away.

Some people's skin is more prone to scarring than others.

Honestly - everyone is right. Even if you stayed big, you'd still have stretch marks. You'll be healthier small.
