Basal Body Temperature question

I have been calculating my Basal Body Temperatures and on the 17th day of my cycle I experienced cramping in my right ovalry and then on day 18 my temperature jumped up .4 degrees putting it higher than any termperature in the last 11 days so I am assuming that I ovulated that day. However, my understanding is that your temperature remains elevated after ovulation and it has dropped the last two days and is not even with the temperature I had 6 days ago. Does that mean I didn't ovulate?

I've been trying to consistantly take my temperature at the same time so since my husband wakes up at 3am I take my temperature at that time ... but I go to bed at different times, so is it better to take my temperature after the same amount of hours of sleep or at the same time?

Also the last two nights I'll go back to bed and then after sleeping another 3-4 hours I'll take the temperature again and I will be about .6-.7 degrees higher. I'm confused. Would love some feedback. Thanks!
