Needing motivation to keep and get me on track

My wife and I are expecting our first child soon and this has spurred me to try and lose weight. About two years ago I weighed 205 pounds and was running 10k races at every chance I got. I had gotten to where I was running them consistently at sub 60 min paces and was looking for the next big challenge. Well I rolled my ankle to the point that I couldn’t walk or run for nearly two weeks. Since then it’s been a slow and steady loss of motivation. Needless to say almost two years later I’m 265lbs and can barely run a 5k in 40min. I remember how I felt and how I looked forward to going to the gym and I just can’t find that again. I dread the thought of losing an extra 60 min of sleep to go work out now and I want to get back on board. I’ve asked friends to work out with me and they do, normally for about a week then stop. I’ve tried various 5k training programs and running for weight loss programs but I lose interest quickly. I am really just looking for some friends (even if they aren’t in my same town) to motivate and keep me accountable. I did so well before because I had three training buddies who were dedicated to working out and losing weight with me so I wasn’t alone running/lifting weights. We’ve moved from the town I lived in when I did this before and I don’t have the supports around here that I used to have. My wife is amazing, but being pregnant she can’t go with me and run like she wants to.

My goal is simple. Initially I want to lose five pounds before my baby is born on Oct 3rd. Then I want to be at 240 by Christmas. I’d love to be down to 220 or even 210 by February 14th so I can do something really nice (splurge a little bit), and look good doing it, for my wife on Valentines Day.

I look forward to starting fresh and going strong!

  • Sounds like excuses to me. Believe me I know exactly what you mean. 2.5 years ago I was doing the P90X workout fairly, playing soccer on a women's team and playing indoor soccer on a co-Ed team. Last co-Ed game of the season I blew out my knee. In January of 2010 I had surgery for mcl, acl, medial and lateral meniscus and was forbidden to put any weight at all on it for two months. Then I got my brace and started physical therapy. We moved three months later and I didn't continue my therapy. I used my knee as an excuse for what was simply lack of motivation on my part. I gained 30 pounds and just started on here a few weeks ago.

I have been making myself work out 6 days a week and yes, there are times when I want to just sleep in or curl up on the couch. If I don't work out in the morning due to my schedule I work out at night. No matter what time it is. I've done is for over a month now and I'm to the point where I crave the workout. It takes 4 weeks to make a habit. M

My advice: MAKE YOURSELF WORKOUT!!! You can do it. Start small so u don't burn out but do something. Speed walk a couple miles. Do squat and lunges and pushups inside. Anything to get yourself started. You will thank yourself later.

Hang in there! You can do it!!! And congrats on the baby!!!
