Pregnancy fat and shoe size

Hi! I saw some posts about how after losing weight some people's shoe sizes goes down as well. All my weight was put on during my pregnancy, and my feet swelled up like balloons at the end, and for a few weeks after the baby was born. I was just wondering if there was hope that after I lose this weight my feet might go back down, or if I'm stuck with this size. I'm a full size bigger now and I don't know if I should invest in many good shoes/get rid of the small ones. Any input from those of you that gained during pregnancy and dealt with foot swelling would be appreciated! Thanks!

I gained 25 pounds when I was pregnant and my feet went up a full size. I lost the baby weight fairly quickly but I was still heavy. Since then I have lost an additional 65 pounds. My feet, although not as puffy as they were when I was pregnant are still a size bigger. I had my daughter over 3 years ago, so I think its safe to say, they are what they are now!

Thanks for your input. And YAY YOU on losing 65 pounds! You must feel so much better. I gained 75 pounds with my pregnancy (omg I don't even like admitting that... Lol). I still have 60 to go, so I don't know why I am even thinking about shoes at this point. Maybe I just want an excuse to go shoe shopping? ;)
  • A LOT of people will lose weight and have their shoe size return to normal or close-to. I'd stick it out for a bit, buy a comfortable pair that fits for now, and give it some time. :)

My feet went up a size when I was pregnant and I was afraid that I'd have to buy new dress shoes when I returned to work after maternity leave. They were a little tight, but now after 2 years they fit fine again. So there is hope!

i gained almost 50 pounds when i was pregnant with my first daughter, and even more with my second. my shoe size went from a ten to an 11. after the second girl, my weight was 230 and i went back to a 10 fairly quickly... since then ive lost 60 more pounds and half a shoe size, so now im 9.5...

moral- i think its different for everyone.
  • I am in nursing school right now and my OB teacher said that typically womens feet goes up by 1 size when pregnant and never goes back down to prepregnant size. However....I was at a size 10 with my son and now I am at an 8.5 even though I weigh 4 lbs more than when I first got pregnant.
  • Oh girl. I LOVE shoes, so share your shoe size, in the event your shoes do not fit...I'm happy to "hold" them for ya. Ha! BUT there is hope...if your shoes are too tight (think you said your foot is a full size bigger), you can take them to a cobbler and have them stretched (sometimes it's just enough to give you an additional full to half size). Hopefully that'll help you save some of the good ones. ;) If not, shopping it is!

    Good luck to you!

My two prized pair of Pradas are 8.. Lol. But i think after hearing all this great input I'm going to hold onto them until I'm at least close to my goal weight. So you can bug me then, ok? ;)

Edit- oh, And good idea about the cobbler.. Thanks!

I went up half a size and didn't go back down :(. Something about our ligaments stretching out....ugh.
  • Hey!
So I had the same problem with swelling during my pregnancy! I don't think my feet fully got back to their normal size but the swelling did go back down a bit! What I did was found shoes that shift and expand with your foot so they are extra comfortable and fit my swollen feet and normal feet! The shoes I found are Casa Couture flats at www.casacouture.com. Honestly, they are heaven for your feet! Plus, I don't have to worry about my feet growing because they self-adjust! Perfect for pregnancy or just any woman in general! Hope this helps!
