Allergy Medicine, can't wake up in the morning.

Does anyone else have regular allergies and have to take an over the counter decongestant just so you don't wake up hacking and sneezing in the middle of the night? I do, however, I have noticed that I have a terrible time waking up in the mornings. I cut the dosage in half in hopes that it would make me sleep lighter but it still hasn't worked.
Does anyone know of an over the counter non/drowsy allergy medication that might work well?

I like loratadine.
Never heard of it. Does it make you sleepy?0 -
no, claritin is advertised as non-drowsy and doesn't make me sleepy(to confirm their advertisement)0

Thanks, I'll have to check it out.. Been cutting it really close with getting up on time for work every day due to this darn allergy season.0

I take a claritin-D at night... and actually it makes me not sleep so hard (which is good, because I have a hard time waking up in the morning) and I am not so tired.0

What type of allergy medicine do u take? I sometimes take clarity but it doesn't really work well on me. Allergra workable really well on me and doesn't make me sleepy. Different meds work differently on different people so just trial mad error till u find what works for u0

Nothing ever helped me until I went to the doctor and got a prescription for Nasonex. Seriously, it's amazing. No side effects, and it works like a dream.0

For me it's Astapro... but I can't afford it... Nasonex, tastes nasty and didn't work that well for me.0 -
I take an over the counter store brand, I think its called Smartsense by kmart brand it says compare to claritin. I can't afford to pay $30-$50 for a bottle of pills and don't have insurance so the store brand surpasses for what I need right now.0

I tried every product on the market for allergies. The ones with decongestants in made me not sleep well enough (had sudafed in them). The one that seems to work the best for me is Allegra. I take it at bed time and it works through the entire night but doesn't make it difficult to get up in the morning. On occasion when I am really stuffy before bed I will use a diluted nasal spray in addition to the Allegra. One of the other side effects of antihistamines is restless leg syndrome, so that may also be affecting your sleep and making you feel groggy in the mornings. Discuss it with your doctor. Keep trying things until you find the one that works the best for you. Good Luck!0

how long do you sleep for? because if you're only getting five/six hours the drowsy effect might have not worn off yet?0

We have had good results with the loratidine (generic claritin). Walmart has 10 tabs for around $4 and you take 1 a day. This is great for my daughter, but I just have been reactions to allergy meds. Everyone is different. You may want to look into nose sprays instead of a pill.0

Have you looked into herbal supplements? I take Milk Thistle for my hives and it worked wonders. Since yours is congestion you would need something different as Milk Thistle works on the liver. But I would highly recommend looking into some sort of supplement as it won't make you drowsy or give you that cloudy feeling I know I used to get with things like Claritin or Reactine0

allergra works for me and doesn't poorly effect my waking up in the morning.0

yes! I was like that with zyrtec, it was a god but i would be SO drowsy for the entire next day....I take half the 30g one now and it does the trick (most of the time anyways). def try the smaller dosage.0

I take Zrytec. Took it way back when it was prescription and now that it's OTC since it's the only one that has helped. I take it in the morning and don't have any drowsiness issues with it.0
