It does hurt but the first time, the sensation after is amazing. Never really get that back. I did laser but it didn't work and hurt worse and cost more:devil:

i prefer sugaring since it's more natural and i get less irritation. there's nothing worse than having to deal with pain from hair rippage AND sensitive skin

and yeah it hurts.. you're ripping out hair from an area that designed to be sensitive

    take tylenol before hand

It hurts but the pain lasts for seconds at a time. Parts of it doesn't hurt much at all. Take a few ibuprofen before (or shots) and plan a nice treat for afterwards. Definitely worth it.. just feels.. cleaner and such. The more you do it, the easier it is.. especially if you dont let it go more than 4-6 weeks between appointments.

I've had both wax and sugar and sugar doesn't hurt as much but seems to grow back more quickly.

I do suggest going to a "nice place".. worth it to have a high quality wax in a relaxing environment.

Why? Do you really think guys care about some hair right there?

Well, we do care. A lot.

yep, we do care.." a lot ". hhmm, wonder why im on this thread anyway?? must mean I care, lol. I wouldnt personally ask my gf wife to get a brazilian wax however....when i was bodybuilding I had my chest waxed ONCE......hurt like a Mother-Fer I can only imagine how waxing that particular area would feel...ouch!!

It's awkward at first, but just remember they waxer has done this before (hopefully). They start with the bikini and get everywhere else. Sometime they will wax the inner lips, especially if you ask. I use to get it all the time till I started to get bumps from the irritation. It does hurt, but nothing unheard of. I've experienced worse pains while having cramps than I have during a wax session.

Brazilian wax is a piece o' cake compared to getting lasered by a male physician who tries to do small talk while working on you. :embarassed: . It takes multiple humiliating visits but then it's over forever.

Waxing = ew! Laser hair removal is the ticket...it barely hurts at all and the hair loss is virtually permanent. SOOOOOO worth the money. I have my underarms and bikini line done.

Yep I agree! I think the pain depends on the type of hair you have. I'm half-Indian, so my hair is really course and black, which equals a WORLD of pain! I get IPL and while it still hurts like a beast, it's permanent so doesn't seem as bad!

Laser technology near some of your most vital reproductive organs... sounds pretty risky. :/

I think it depends on the type of laser and the amount of hair you have removed. I get IPL on my underarms and bikini and it's around $100 AUD a session for both. It seems pretty steep, but you only need 7-10 sessions and then you never need to do it again (well, they recommend a touch-up every 2 years or so), so in the long run you probably save money. With me it's more the pain, though! I can't handle the pain of brazilians, and the thought of having to indefinitely go through that....*shudder*

I think getting my eyebrows waxed hurts more. Honestly. The first time is the worst, but still not all that bad. I was scared the first time and actually took some of my vicodin about an hour before. I would not have had to do that at all.

I've gone to two different salons in my area, and there was a huge difference in price and QUALITY. The cheaper place did a much, much better job. I've never had to get on my knees, I'm curious about those that needed to...couldn't you just have pulled your legs up?

Anyway, I go in about every 3 weeks, the hair grows in thinner after a waxing and seems less coarse. I use a product called Finipil recommended by the salon, to help prevent ingrown hairs. Yes, it's a little pricey to have it done every three weeks, especially considering how cheap razors are. I don't like stubble though, and neither does my husband. There is NO stubble with waxing.

Regarding the "unhygienic" comment: There is nothing unhygienic about waxing or shaving. Pubic hair thins as we age for many people, and I've seen plenty of elderly women (and men) who do NO maintenance and have virtually no pubic hair left.

Grooming in this area is a personal choice, but it's not unhygienic.

There's a lot of research on it, though, and in the 20+ years it's been around there haven't been any aversive effects shown in the many controlled studies besides surface burns at high temperatures. Given, you don't know what'll happen 30 years down the track, but the same can be said for many of the products we put in our bodies (artificial sweeteners, deodorant, antibiotic-ridden meat etc etc).

Waxing is sa-WEEET! Much better than shaving and lasts WAY longer! The only annoying thing is that it costs to maintain it, but I only get it done once every 5 weeks, so it's really not too bad.

Honestly, the first time hurts like absolute hell, but the more you go, the better it gets.

I don't go completely bare, because I find that a little less than womanly, so I leave a strip.

I have yet to come across a therapist who has told me to get on my hands and knees for a wax.. how awkward is that?!

Anyhow, overall, you may as well go once and see how you go.. it'll grow back and if you really can't stand the pain, just don't go back. :)

No ones talking about it here yet, but I've read more and more medical articles saying that all the hair removal can lead to more bacterial problems. I can't quote the stuff I've read, but the hair is down there for some reason, right!? Bikini line seems to be not a problem, but taking it all off, not for me.

Yeah, I know the men like it.....but I'm not sacrificing my health for that. Hair or no hair...women are like crack to the guys - lol! ;-D

Links to the medical articles? Scientists can't even agree on the purpose of pubic hair...trapping pheromones? Warmth? Me personally, I have had about a dozen yeast infections in my adult life. I have had ZERO since I started waxing. I seem to be prone to UTI's, but have had ZERO since I started waxing. I know that's anecdotal, but if there is a connection between hair removal and bacterial infections, I'd like to read more about it.

Very curious for one hot minute. The nurse in me questions about the hygienic practices of the establishment no matter how nice it looks. Is the wax or product infection free & for single use. I won't get my eyebrows waxed from a community wax vat bowl. Only eyebrows threading for me. Can't imagine I would expose my vajay-jay unless I was assured it was single use only. I guess this will still be on my bucket list. May surprise my husband on our 75th wedding anniversary if time did not care of it naturally through the aging process.

A quality salon does single use only. I watch the waxer get everything ready. She has a warmer, but each "can" of wax is small and intended for single use. She also doesn't double dip, she has disposable wooden applicators and I've watched her get those ready too.

The nurse in ME can't figure out how she does all this with gloves on. I've asked her a dozen times how she manages with the gloves/wax because I can't seem to deal with tape and gloves.

I used to have my eyebrows waxed but switched to threading because it was easier on my skin.

Have had bikini waxes and LOVE them. They do hurt a bit but not much. But, it's wax and not very long-term.

Have had laser on my under arms and it really doesn't hurt that much. I actually think it hurt a heck of a lot less than waxing, plus it only takes a few minutes and...done!

Based on personal experience, I think I would do laser down there before a Brazilian. Pain is fine if I know there's an end in sight but with waxing there really isn't.

Ummm...have you looked at a porn film in the last 10 years? Men totally care about that. It is one of the first questions you get asked when personal questions start flying.
