I spotted an ad for SlimGum. This chewing gum is supposed to act as an appetite suppressant and curb cravings. On it's face book page are a lot of reviews. In one of them the girl said that she had dropped a dress size in a month by using the gum.

Then someone asked a pertinent question.

Q "That is great, may I ask what your excercise routine is please?"

A "yeah, i exercise about 5 times a week. i go to the gym for a hour every week night. i spend 40 minutes on the treadmill or cross trainer and 20 minutes swimming. 2 nights a week i also go to one hour long zumba class and 1 hour long body pump class. the weekend i like to relax but saterday & sunday morning before i eat my breakfast i go for a 40 minute walk. Iv been doing this for about 3 months but never noticed i was loosing weight because of how i was eating and since iv started taking SlimGum its made such a big difference.

So 8 hours and 20 mins of excercise a week made no difference at all but chewing gum solved your weight loss problem. Got to get me some of that for sure.

Ok, ok, I know if she was over eating while working out and the gum stopped her eating and caused a calorie deficit then her weight would come down, but she could have done that for free if she joined MFP and saved herself £2.99 each time she bought a pack of gum.

Does this stuff really curb your appetite and keep you feeling full or is it just another money making gimmick because easy weight loss AND fresh breath how can I resist that

I always thought that regular gum was a way to not eat.. Not that is suppresses my appetite, but it satisfies the oral fixation (instead of chewing food..) the same way that people chew gum instead of smoking more cigarettes.

Sounds like more BS to me.

I tried Nutra-Trim gum when I found it in the reduced section. Didn't help. :smokin:

I find chewing gum makes me hungry, I think the chewing action makes my stomach expect food so I don't chew it much.

    ^^ this...

Found this on the internet... *ask.com - so public opinion*
Although the little bit of sugar and flavor can ward off hunger for a short time...

Chewing sends a signal to your stomach that food is on it's way down. After a while...when all you're sending down is sliva and air...your stomach says, 'Hey what's going on up there? All that chewing and no food'.

So it sends the message to your brain that it's being deprived..and it wants food. Thus, the hunger pains...LOL

When you're not chewing gum...your stomach isn't expecting anything...and is quite happy to wait until the next meal.

Worse than that, when you're chewing gum...and sending the 'food's coming' signal to your stomach...your stomach can start to produce digestive enzymes and acid...and when no food arrives...it can irritate the lining of your stomach.

Then I found this article *a little more credence*:

Well it is harder to eat with gum in your mouth. I almost never chew gum though.

I have to admit I've used SlimGum for 6 months now. I have lost weight during this time but I'm also exercising and having a better diet, so I guess I don't really know if it helped actively. Nonetheless, my mind is thinking it helps so if that positive mental thought is helping me, it's worth it IMO.

I will add I think many people accept that green tea and green coffee helps slimming and appetite suppression and SlimGum does contain green coffee bean extract.
  • Sounds like an add for a gum that smells like bulls**t to me!
