I wouldn't say I am a pro but I have the education and the background to answer questions. I have lost 50 pounds and am in the best shape of my life. I have completed 16 half marathons, 1 full, few tri's and four Tough Mudders. I know what it takes to look lean and healthy....
So why me? Well I have a masters degree in Wellness and Fitness, as well as one in Health Education. I know the tools and I want to give back by helping all of you!
So what is the first question?!

Is it okay to do some type of exercise everyday? I'm doing the 30 day shred, and the days I take a break from that, I go to the gym. I've heard your body needs a break, but I feel crummy when I don't do SOMETHING.0
-
It is okay to workout and do some sort of activity every day. However, you do need to listen to your bodies warning signs. So if you are feeling weak and just have nothing to give..it is your body saying "HEY SLOW DOWN." I train 6 days a week. I always, ALWAYS take a day off. I would highly suggest doing that or maybe two days off. Are you doing weight training or all cardio?0
-
Mostly cardio since I started the 30DS. I have 5 days left of that and then would like to start something else. Also, think it's probably a good idea to add in weight training.0
-
It is really important to add in weight training. I can't stress this enough. Muscles don't have to be bulky and they never are on us ladies...muscles burn fat, start the metabolism and keep your bones safe.
Do you feel comfortable working out at the gym with weights? Or at home?0 -
I don't mind the gym, but I don't really know what weights I should lift - how many reps, what weight etc.0
-
I have 5 pounds to lose....just 5 grilling pounds that won't go away....even with that lost at 110 and 5"4(which I have been all my life) I am not toned....I have those arms and tummy that prevent me from dressing skinny..... I am pretty much lost ... I do 30 ds .( been on a 3 day break hate the plateu...barely ate) ... Am not a foodie by nature...tried toeat up calories since joining mfp.... But nothing seems to work for the 5 pounds help!0
-
I use to lift at gym but now am in at home video's. It is amazing to me the success I have had over just 90 days... but you have to want it. Check out this blog I wrote after my 90 days Chalean extreme challenge.

Second question.. or maybe 3rd..lol
Is it true that you have to work out a minimum of 35minutes in each session to achieve fat burn- getting into the glycemic index or something or other..
And how much weight is too much? I have unusual strength (or did and do still somedays with my MS), and I like to push myself. So for example- I'll dead lift as much as I can without peeing my pants (lol) for a few reps so I dont get bored doing 30 reps of 20lbs.. Is that ok or not so ideal?0 -
My advice would be.. pick up some weights! Weight training will help increase the metabolism and help with those last nagging pounds.
If you are in a plateau you really need to change up what you are doing..Basically, you need to shock your system again.
Tell me what you do for workouts and such.0 -
You have to ask yourself what your goals are...
I would say that this is harmful if you don't do it correctly. For me it is all about doing the reps SLOW and heavy but not too heavy that I will pull my back or something that will impact me to continue on. So the question I ask you....do you feel like this way of exercise is giving you the results you want or need? If the answer is NO then I would change it up and try something different...If body building is your thing go ahead lift heavy.. BUT please know and understand the correct way to do the lift!0 -
oh absolutely. Slow, feeling it and pushing it. But not over doing. I used to ages ago, (prior MS) and had fantastic results, but I guess I;m asking if less weight-more reps or more weight- less reps is better for weight loss until I'm ready to tone. and about that 35minute-into the glycemic index.. ?????
..some things I just don't remember post brain biopsy..0 -
OK You're on - nutrition is what really confuses me. If you have a look at my diary for last week, I think I'd be accurate in saying that I burned a ridiculous amount of calories (though I think the exercise calories are inflated) and pretty much always ate within my macros etc. And ended the week one pound less than the week before. That would make sense if I was within a couple pounds of goal, but I sorta kinda just started.
What do you think?0 -
I do 30 ds with 1.5 kg weights along with running as long as i can (minimum of 20 minutes) and when I can I do add in zumba....
My arms are not very strong( push ups are a struggle) and past month has been a first for me with weights.... I am capable of doing cardio to any extent though...
I try eating differently different days...am never starved...but I do feel full pretty quick (around 1000 calories)...
Though past three days my diary has been really low on calories with zilch workouts .... I am ready to start afresh again tomorrow..0 -
I can't afford a gym right now, but I definitely need to incorporate more lifting..you think Chalean Extreme is a good sub to lifting at the gym?0

Hello,
I have lost eight pounds so far, and to reach my goal weight I need to lose 27 more (from 162 to 135) I have done it before so I know it can be done, but this time is much harder. I have three different rountines that I do, The thirty day shred, hip hop abs and the newest Melt it off. Sometimes I am just so exhausted from the day (I work full time and go to school full time) that I don't even want to work out. Is there something else that I need to be doing to keep myself motivated? I mean I feel a lot better afterwards its just getting started that I have a problem with. Also, is it a good idea to switch up every day between those three work outs?0 -
So nice of you! Really! (I am 50, need to lose 20 pounds from 152 pounds (better if I lose 25).
I am just starting to track calories and work on cardio more regularly.
SHOULD I ALSO LOOK UP, ONLINE, SOME WEIGHT EXERCISES? I JUST SAW A VIDEO ON ARMS ON THE LIVESTRONG.COM WEBSITE?
When, in the "new to weight loss and adding exercise stage" do we start to add strength training? and how much/often to start with?0 -
I am an (almost) 28 yr old female with RA...any exercises that are friendly on the joints? I walk a mile to 2 miles a day now, but it's starting to get easy. Need something a little more challenging, but not so much that I feel like dying afterwards. (I'm sore enough at the end of the day as it is cause of this stupid disease.)
Thanks!

I will look at this later on...
I eat close to 2000 calories a day but I workout like a machine and am training for a marathon.
It also can be the kinds of foods you are eating!0 -

My advice is do the workouts first thing in the morning. I know it is SUPER hard but nothing will ever get in the way...well besides sleeping in.
I too work full time, coach, go to school part time and am training for a full marathon. If I don't get up at 4:30 to workout... I WILL NOT workout. I get tired from the day and the stress of life. So I have to workout when I am fresh. Also-I have a txt buddy. What does this mean. Well she workouts out early too-She txt me every morning and wishes me a good workout. Super easy to do and it keeps me accountable.

It is NEVER to soon to start lifting. Honestly, the best advice I can give you is start right away. It not only keeps your bones safe, helps speed up metabolism and muscles LOOK awesome on EVERYONE. I can give you advice at home video's if you want them.0 -

First of all girl.. YOU ARE Rocking it!! What about pool walking or running? Easy on the joints and a super awesome workout. You get the resistance without weights and the cardio all in one. Do you have pool access?0 -
The pool was my best friend when I was pregnant with my last son (who will be 2 on Saturday:) I had a dislocated pelvis my entire pregnancy with him and the only way I got any relief was to get in the pool. I never really thought of it as a way to exercise...but I definitely will try it!
Thanks!!0 -

Guessing that this was regarding my post - you can call me Rick. I also have the goal of running a marathon and hope to shred a pile of weight before starting road work. I don't mind working like a machine and am ramping it up but don't want to hurt myself.0 -

The goal is to go as quick as you can! If the pool has a water belt even better... put it on and go to the deep in. Run without even touching the bottom of the pool. Burns way more calories than doing it on land!0 -
