Hi,
Had a very very salty few days, after a night of vodka. I know you need to eat 3500 calories plus your daily, so I don't think I've stored 2lb of fat. Is it possible I have 2lb of water sqiudging around inside me? Extra?

Replies

  • yes, it's water retention, don't worry!
  • very possible. it's possible to have 10 pounds stored inside of you. I am rather small and can easily fluctuate by 5-8 pounds.

Thanks, will drink a ton of water and not add any salt for a few days, and see if it helps!

salt+alcohol= water retention. Sorry. I, too, have large weight fluctuations (8 lbs overnight is not uncommon). You just need to remember to get extra water in between the shots ;)
  • Drink a couple cups of water with some lemon slices in it. It will help clear out the extra water. Make sure to not drink too much lemon water because it dehydrate you though!

Nope, it's not fat it's water retention, like you said!

I gain water weight sooo easily, so I've learned some damage control after a few salty days:
    Up my water intake
    Drink green tea
Go to the gym and make sure to sweat
I usually sit in the steam room or sauna for a little after my workouts...Helps me unwind from my workout and helps me a lot with water retention. Plus, you feel so refreshed afterwards.

Also, potassium helps (green tea has potassium, that's why I drink it)...Potassium is like the opposite of sodium in the nutrition world...If that makes sense? :) Spinach, bananas, and most veggies have potassium :)

I've just become obsessed with water retention, I used to eat salt added to everything, lots of fizzy drinks, crisps, soy sauce, muffins and donuts. Im eating lots of veg and protein, am I still retaining water, is there any way to check if your skin is retaining water underneath? I know that sounds silly, but anybody else cutting sodium, raising potassium please advise! :)

Sugar also causes water retention, also think refined grains which convert to sugar very easily. Eat lots of veggies and fruits. Raw helps you lose quicker.

Dandelion root tea is an excellent natural diuretic. It will flush the water right out of your system
