You should eat whatever you can tolerate. Or don't eat anything, if you can't tolerate food before a run. I personally can't eat 2 hours before running. No matter what I try, I will end up getting sick along the side of the road and my performance suffers. Some people find a piece of fruit or something small works well for them. So, do what works for you!0

I usually run after work. I try to have a snack around 2:30 or 3 and then nothing until after my run. I usually am running around 5:30.
For my races, which are in the morning, I'll eat an english muffin with peanut butter about 1.5 to 2 hrs before the race. That has always sat well with me.0 -

I eat breakfast around 7-8 .... lunch about noon... I don't get to run until 6 or 7 in the evening. So maybe something mid afternoon would be sufficient to hold me through. But then I dont get home until 10ish and I haven't had dinner yet.0 -

Can you pack a snack for after your run? Or do you run for that long not to get home until 10?0 -

There's nothing wrong with eating dinner late - it won't "turn into fat because your metabolism shuts down after 7pm." Unless it's personal preference not to eat so late, you can eat when you get home. I regularly eat dinner late at night. I had 2 slices of pizza & a breadsick at 9pm last night......and I'm down 0.5lbs this morning. Eat when it you want to/when it fits in your schedule.
That being said, if you are worried about meal timing for performance, maybe use more calories for lunch and an afternoon snack on days that you run. Then, you can have a lighter dinner/snack after you get home.0 -

It usually just takes me that long to make it home on those evenings.0 -

I guess always try not to eat then go straight to bed. Maybe the days I know I'm running and I'll have to change up my eating schedule on to accomodate. Most of my calories seem to come from dinner... maybe i'll do better lunch and afternoon snack0
