BMR, TDEE, confusion?

How close to your BMR are you suppose to eat? I have been reading about macros, TDEE (amount calories your body burns in a 24 hour period), etc. and it can get confusing! It says you're suppose to eat 15-20% less than your TDEE. Well my BMR is 2,477 and my TDEE is 2,894. I'm eating about 1700-1750 calories on a daily basis, and try to burn at least 200-300 calories a day through exercise (with the exception of 1 day or so that I take off). Am I doing everything right?

My BMR is 1265 and my TDEE is a hair over 2000, I eat 1700 cal a day. More if I add extra exercise.

If your TDEE is 2894 then 1700 seems too low, especially if you are burning an additional 300 cal with exercise. That brings your net far below your BMR.

With 177 weight loss goal you should probably shoot for a 2 lb per week loss. That is about 1000 cal per day deficit. That puts you somewhere like 1900 to 2000 per day with a TDEE of 2900 and some exercise. The BMR and TDEE are all estimates and as your body gets used to its current routine it will get more efficient, so I would see what type of loss you are having and then adjust your caloric intake to keep yourself about 2 lb per week for now.
