heart rate monitor question

Ok... I have a HRM (with the chest strap) that calculates calories burned. The problem is that the calories on my HRM and the cardio equipment don't match... not even close! Which do I believe?
I would love to believe my HRM that says I burned like 1300 in a 1hr workout but the machine which said like 700 something seems more realistic!
HELP!

Hi, I always go with my own HRM since it's more specifically programmed for me. But then again the # on my HRM is also always less than on the machine. If you want to be conservative, it's always safe to go with the lower #.0

Always, always, always go with the heart rate monitor, its by far the most accurate read you can get0

First of all, did you input your weight, gender, etc into the HRM before you started to use it? Did you input this same information into the exercise machine? Assuming you had to enter the same information into your HRM that I had to put in mine, I would go with the HRM. I know it may seem crazy, but most exercise equipment gives an average amount of calories burned. I'll admit that I don't get to use these very often, so your equipment may be better. I would go with the one that you had to input the most information into, whichever that is.
One important thing, don't forget to subtract out the calories you would have burned just sitting on the couch in the same amount of time. I didn't do that at first, and had some problems because I generally eat my exercise calories.:ohwell:0 -

Yes... I do put in all of my information! But the tip about subtracting calories that I would have normally burned, great idea, never thought of that! Thx!0
