Hi people, quick question to you all of you, I am currently on a diet to lose body fat, so far I have lost 20 pounds and I was wondering what body fat percentage should I aim to get too so I can start building muscle?
Cheers!

Are you asking when you should start lifting weights? Now. No need to wait for a certain BF%

Good rule of thumb is to cut to 10% and bulk to 15% and repeat. On my first big cut losing all the fat I had accumulated over years, I only got to 12% before my strength started to drop, so I ended there. I was less educated when I started and could have lost the weight much faster if I knew everything I know now, so I might could have made it to 10 if I had "done it right."

Start lifting right now...it will preserve the muscles you have.....when you feel ready, do a bulk / cut cycle to add muscle mass.

What % are you now? And are you currently lifting?

You may want to get down to 9-12% then start the bulk.

While cutting you should be lifting just as you would when you are trying to add muscle as lifting now will help you retain the muscle you already have.

I'm going to really go for it when I hit 10%, but want to get in to all the routines before then. Just need to get some stuff set up - still doing a lot of climbing and the 100 push up in six week challenge as it is.

FYI: Lifting heavy while cutting is just as important as when bulking.

OP never stated he wasn't lifting now. Bulk/Cut has a lot more to do with diet than exercise. You should be lifting in both, it comes down to surplus vs deficit caloric intake.

As far as actual muscle building goes (a calorie surplus) there's no specific body fat %, but if you feel you are quite skinny, but don't have much muscle, that may be the best time. Also if you still feel unhappy in your levels of body fat, that would probably not be the best time either.

When you increase muscle mass, you automatically reduce fat percentage. 10% body fat is 15 lbs when you weigh 150 lbs. but add 20 lbs. of muscle then it goes up to 17 lbs.

Do you mean your BMI? If so an healthy BMI is 25 and under, if you regularly do weights 3x per week with a day of rest between each session and eat the right foods, have protein with every meal, you are on the right track,
