When do you stop your HRM

When you're done exercising, or do you leave it running until you heart rate drops closing to your resting heart rate? For example, if I am running and my heart rate is around 150, should I stop it as soon as I am done working out? Or should I leave it running because my heartrate will take a few minutes while I'm stretching to come down to like the 105-115 range.....am I still burning calories as long as my heart rate is up?

I stop mine right away. I figure I might be slightly off on my calories for the day, so if there's a little extra "burn" I miss in my calorie counts, that will only help!

I stop mine when I stop my run. It allows for two things:

    1. I know how long my run was.

    2. I don't have to worry about subtracting the calories I would have burned had I been doing normal activity instead of running.

Yes, you burn calories all day long, even when you sleep.

As far as how long you go after exercising before you stop your HRM, that is up to you. I have the same philosophy as fitzfour. I stop mine as soon as I'm done exercising. I consider any extra calories burned after exercise as make up for the fact that I don't subtract resting calories off my HRM calories before I eat them.

I stop mine when go back into the house after running regardless of my HR. The way I see it, my cool down walk is still burning calories at an accellerated rate.

I'm not concerned about over estimating be the HRM does not record the warm-up walk, and my HR is still in the 120-130 when I turn it off. In the event I'm running for time I stop it long enough to get a split, then re-start it.
