The plates on the barbells (up to 150 lbs) are too small in diameter to roll over even my shins. I got stuck today and had to ask someone for help.

What do people do? Do you stack them on things? What, if so?

Is there an equivalent movement that's less likely to trap a person? If so, how do you do it? Thinking single leg glute bridges with a dumbbell, but not sure how & where you`d balance it. Or what loading should be like (vs hip thrust - am only at 90 lbs for it).

Single leg with a Dumbell should be fine, just put it in the crease of your hip and keep it In place with you hand.

There isn't anything that compare with a hip thrust, just get strong enough so you can do it with 2 full size 45's, problem solved!

Are you using the pre-made bars with the little plates or an olympic bar / mini-olympic bar with plates that you load? One of those bars with 25lb plates or higher should have plenty of diameter I would think.

    Thanks for your reply :)

It's the premade bars with the tiny, baby plates :( Today was my first day at the gym (have been doing stuff at home & outgrown it), and it turns out they don't have olympic BBs. Just the ones you described, dumbbells, and a smith machine.

I'm soon getting the 25s for home, but can easily see growing out of those fast enough. And I need the cardio options at the gym, hoped to make it work..

Any McGuyver tips for making it happen somehow?

Appreciate the alternative, and the instructions - thanks! :)

Aside from finding a new gym, no. :( The other guy's rec for using the DB is your best option.
