Crossfit help?

So I don't know much about this crossfit thing but it sounds like something I would really enjoy as opposed to my usual workout. Can someone tell me what exactly it is? And how I would go about getting started with it? I really like the idea of a short high-intensity workout. Thanks for the help! :)

I think this link describes it pretty well... plusses and minuses, things to consider...

Usually in a class we warm up with some running and/or rowing at an easy effort, some mild calisthenics (few rounds of pushups or pullups, assisted if necessary, situps, etc.)

spend some time doing a strength workout like squatting or pressing, usually 5x5 or 5-3-1 for a given lift

then a "workout of the day" which is fast-paced, designed to get your heart rate up
here's a nice list of beginner workouts

    and some time doing stretching

the main site gives a video demo of many exercises

  • You're basically doing a whole body weights/cardio workout. YOu do a very high set of reps with low amounts of weights and you're also timed (100 reps in 60 sec)....the risk of injury for crossfit is high because there are no pauses, and because of all of the repetition. I'd suggest a trainer at least to get you started, and go slowly to start with.

A lot of the gyms have an intro package that isn't horribly expensive, and then you can do more on your own.
Ours has I think 8 sessions (1 hour each) for $120, with no more than 3 people per class so you get lots of instruction.
