I am considering going through the police academy. I know most of this stuff will probably vary by the area but just thought i would ask

Did you have to run either on a track or obstacle course to pass ?

Did you try to prepare for the academy by working out more or consetrating more on a certain area ?

Do they show you everything you need to know as far as defending yourself or would it be good to take another self defense/martial arts class ?

How difficult was the academy for you ?

I am, but wrong side of the pond to help.
  • I'm a detective in a smaller city in Indiana. Our academy has a mile and a half requirements and some other physical agility tests.

It wouldn't hurt to be in shape before entering the academy. They will train you on defensive tactics and teach you (in there eyes) everything you need to know. Most of it, you will learn with experience. As far as the level of difficulty, it is all going to depend on that certain academy. That would be a question best asked to an officer that has been through the academy your looking at going to.
