Joggin in the rain.

Today was that day. Waking up, 5:30 am and I can hear the pounding of heavy rain on the roof, hear the splatter of drops and the wind whipping the leaves on the maples outside the house. Ah yes, it all puts a smile on my face. With a grin I put my running shoes on, wave good bye to my sweetie (who is shaking her head a bit) and head out the door. As I jog down the street, still in the semi- dark, I am soaked through within minutes, take a few leaps to avoid the deeper puddles but cannot help be reminded of that most fabulous of movie musicals (for those of you old or lucky enough to have seen it) "Singing in the rain". I find myself making up little song variations (so wonderfully sung by Gene Kelly): "I am running in the rain, just running and singing in the rain, what a glorious feeling to be happy again"..... while all the while I feel so alive. Rain has that effect on me some times. Mind you, I am only recently returned to running and still do a lot of huffing and puffing but today all the puffing was a happy one. 54 minutes and 10 k later I return home, water making squelshing sounds in my running shoes, my shirt plastered to my chest, rain pouring down my face but I cannot help but feel great. The coolest part was that I know at least one other jogger who feels that way as we crossed path out there in the dark streets.
So, when next the rain comes pouring down, strap on those running shoes and away you go. Be well.

Running in the rain is fantastic. It's refreshing and, best of all, your neighbours, friends and family think you're insane! (just make sure you pay a little extra attention to wearing highly visible clothing if you're running along the side of the street and wear a headlight if it's still dark outside)
