Having trouble finding a good bread

In the past I have always gotten Pepperidge Farm 15 grain bread. It has always been my favorite, until recently. I got some and it tasted sweet. There is nothing I dislike more than sweet bread. Blah. So I decided to try Nature's Pride Double Fiber and the same thing, it tasted sweet. Assuming my taste buds are changing because a salad dressing I used to love is the same way. Does anyone know of a good high fiber bread that isn't crazy expensive and isn't sweet. Thanks.

I just cut out bread. Makes it wicked affordable. :bigsmile:
Check Costco bakery section. They have some great fresh products.0 -
I'd check with your local bakery's, just buy it by the loaf and have them slice it. the cost isn't much different and you can find a variety of loaf sizes so you can check out new flavors simply enough.0

Well, I don't do bread often, but occasionally I just like to have a sandwich with tons of lettuce and tomatoes. Maybe the next time I am near a costco I will check it out. Thanks.0

Thanks minkakross. I think the closest we have to a bakery around here is in Kroger's which I believe they have some bread there. Guess I will check it out.0

I gave up bread altogether... even my kids have quit eating it.... it's one of the best things I ever did: every time I start eating it again, my weight loss stalls or worse starts to reverse..0

I love a moist but dense wheat bread. As far as just buying one off the shelf, my favorite is Brownberry Natural Wheat Bread - the original Catherine Clark recipe (has a partially red wrapping). It always seems to be on the top shelves at WalMarts The price might seems a bit steep at $2.99, and it's 100 calories per slice, but I love it plain or toasted, and I consider it a treat. Give it a try!0

i think Brownberry Healthfull - Multigrain Bread is really good. i dont eat bread often so i freeze mine and warm what i need when ready to eat0

i buy arnold's dark german wheat bread, it's a little pricey from the grocery store at almost 5$ a loaf but i can usually find it for buy one get one free. Or i go to the outlet bread store and it's a 1$ a loaf on tues and fri.0

I make my own bread. Unfortunately, bread is my nemesis. I eat one slice and make my son eat the rest.0

"Squirrely" sprouted grains bread, I love it- it has 5 grams of fiber in one slice. You can buy it at Costco.0

Ezekiel bread I have it every morn for breakfast. It's loaded with fiber and no preservatives. It's pretty dense so very filling. I find it at the grocery store it's usually on the top shelf but I keep it in the fridge because of the no preservative thing it goes bad fast if you don't.0

About the only thing I buy in the mass-market sandwich-type bread is Nature's Own Specialty 12 Grain - very sturdy, nutty, and *no* white flour. Not a sweet bread by any means. For any other bread I go to Central Market, pick a fresh loaf, and have it sliced if needed, though I usually slice at home since it stays fresher that way.0

Natures Own wheat or honey wheat is 40cal per slice. It tastes good when its toasted :flowerforyou:0

I cut out bread and bread like products (pitta bread etc)
I think that's what I am contributing most of my weight loss too. I used to have one maybe two sandwiches a day.
You don't really miss it tbh

I make my own - bought my partner a panasonic beadmaker for christmas a couple of years ago and we've barely bought a shop loaf since. they look expensive but once you've gone like a year without buying a loaf you break even.
For me the best thing is knowing exactly what's in there, you can put the ingredients into mfp recipes and weigh what you eat.0 -

I eat Sara Lee 45 calorie each slice whole wheat bread. It taste great, besides you shouldn't be getting most of your fiber from just bread. Good luck findingwhat you want.0

Try your local fresh (all natural) bakery. You'll never go back to store bread again. (And just remember to keep the fresh baked bread in your refrigerator as there isn't any preservatives in it and it will last much longer.)0

Oh do I! But it's mostly on line though some stores do carry it. Called Food for Life sprouted grain breads. Genesis is the multigrain and is the less sweet of the two I get. The Ezekial is a cinnamon raisin and it is a bit sweeter. But both are great. They have a low glycemic index and are the only ones I can eat without getting a carb surge/craving. They have other great products too. Check them out.0

Thanks everyone. I will look into some of these. Like I said earlier, I don't eat bread all the time, but when I want a slice or a sandwich, then I don't want it sweet. I usually freeze mine as well because if I don't it goes bad before eating it all. For the most parts I eat salad for lunch, but I like to have a change. I will see what I can find at the store next time I go.0

I eat more wheat/whole gran wraps depending on the brand the calories are high, In the fresh baked bread sections they have some 110 calorie wheat wraps also Joseph's flax oat bran & whole wheat lavash bread is only 50 calories a 1/2.0
