Fitness Over 50 - On the Back Nine And Staying Healthy

Once you hit 50, you have officially hit the back nine. Anyone who has golfed will be familiar with the phrase.

When you reach 50, you become much more aware of your fitness, health, general appearance and everyday energy levels. To be precise, you become aware of the above issues beginning to decline. Your health over 50 becomes more of a concern than it was before.

Personally, prior to reaching 50 years of age, I frankly never really worried about any of these issues. I was always in reasonable – not great – shape. For whatever warped reason, I always felt that I would be spared the effects of aging. That changed when I hit 50. Reality hit. Plus my wife told me I was an old man. Smartass!

Mentally, the big 50 was very significant. Physically, I felt fine but that number was disturbing. In fifteen years, I would be old enough to retire. The problem was and still is, I am not ready to retire. I still have too many things to do before I pack it in.

So, earlier last year, my wife (who turned 50 last year) and I decided to take control of our health and fitness. We decided to start a fitness program that we would stick to. We had tried before but always stopped about 3 months into the program. However, this time we did something different! We hired a Personal Trainer.

Wow- what a difference. It really helps to know what you are doing if you want results. We are seeing them and feeling them. It’s exciting!
