I know that if you have excess fat this is totally possible, but I didnt. I was only 142 at 5'1 and I appear to have lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. How much of that was just water and bloat, and how much was actually fat? I have been doind workout videos like 30DS and started up P90X a couple days ago, plus I walk my dog everyday. Can cutting calories (I never really go too much under my daily allowance, and sometimes go over) and exercising really make me lose 7 lbs in 2 weeks?

Sure. 10 lbs in the last 10 days for me. That's 5% of my body weight. Working to slow down the loss as it's too fast, in my opinion.

Once I figured out how to eat correctly (and for me that is Paleo/primal) I had no trouble losing weight quickly...and whether it is bloat or fat, it still is good to lose it! Water tends to balance itself back out ....so just see what happens for you

    AND

    congrats!

How are we supposed to tell you how much was water weight and how much was fat? There's no way for us to know, but at only 142 pounds I doubt you lost nothing but fat. Usually the smaller you are the slower it comes off.

I dont expect you to know specifically. I just started, and I am really surprised I lost that much. I was just wondering if it was normal to have a rapid loss like that, and if its usually just water weight. Also because I was so small to start, I was really surprised by the amount.

Congrats on the loss that's great for two weeks of hard work and is probably a little bit of fat loss and water loss. Either way it's great so keep on rocking it!

i think dropping a lot of carbs (not necessarily eliminating completely, but drastically limiting) can cut water and bloat really quickly. that is why even when i stay in my calorie limit but have a dinner heavy in carbs (like an enchilada casserole with cornbread mix in it), i am up half a pound the next day. maybe more. it goes away within another day or two.
