    potato.
white rice is a simple carb, high in calories, and does not fill you up very well. if you want rice, definitely go with the brown.

when prepared well (not seeping in butter, fats, and oils), the potato, while starchy, does have a good amount of nutrients.

Brown rice. White starches are no good!

  • If you want white rice... I say go for it, but decrease the amount you eat to fit your calories. I do, however, agree that a potato is more filling. The only downfall to the potato (medium size) is that it has 12 counts of sodium vs. white rice's (1 cup) 2, and I don't even think 12 is worth freaking out about... lol!

If you can't get brown rice, I'd go with the potato but you have to eat the skin as that is where a lot of the nutrition is. Bake or steam, and don't add a lot of salt or butter. Sweet potato as it is lower on the glycemic index than regular poatoes (won't spike your blood sugar as much), but again, eat the skin. However, I still eat ordinary potatoes fairly regularly, and they are a good source of vitamin C, they also have reasonable amounts of folate (folic acid) and also contain Magnesium, Copper & Zinc and are also good for vitamins B and B6. They also contain a reasonable amount of potassium, which is important for your blood pressure as well as good fibre (but you must eat the skin).

Instead of cheese, salt, or butter on your potato, try some fat free sour cream. You'll get a punch of calcium & dairy with those nutrients, and it's delicious!
