How bad is your Lactose Intolerance?

  • Wow! This is so great to hear other's horror stories with dairy. I used to always go into these "fits of pain" in high school that always seemed to happen during a major test. It took a while for me to correlate the dairy to the pain. Oh, and I love the fact that my mother told me 10 years later that I had the problem as an infant, but it went away as a toddler. (Thanks mom...I could have used that bit of knowledge a long time ago!)

I always take two Lactaid Fast Act pills with all my dairy (except for yogurt...I get ballsy and only take one pill with that...yeah I go hard! LOL). The pills work about 80% of the time for me, but that 20% is enough for me to really really really think about if I want that slice of pizza or not. Lactaid also makes ice cream! And they taste pretty great (esp. the Strawberry).

I get really jealous of people who go on diets that allow them to drink a protein shake. That would kill me...literally. I also get jealous of those people who don't have this issue because I basically have to cut out a whole food group from my diet. Glad to know I am not alone!!!

Im pretty sure i am lactose intolerant.. somewhat atleast... i am constantly burping and bloated and sometimes pain.. do any of you guys have the same symptoms? I try so hard to try and go lactose free and forget and end up eating cheese or something! I was researching and saw that you can even eat apples if you are lactose intolerant! I did switch from whey protein to whey protein isolate since it is lactose free and my stomach has been feeling a little better

My level is pretty similar to yours, over the years i have found that if i REALLY want dairy i can take everything....all at once, lactaid (or similar) ,prilosec, pepto bismal.
On a daily basis, i just avoid dairy; probably you can try my solution and let me know how that works 4 u.

I can take a dash of milk in my coffee, eat yogurt daily, ice cream is fine. But... SOUR CREAM is like torture. I am in pain for days after sour cream. And I **like** sour cream. Every once in a while I "forget"and think "Oh, it's not that bad" and eat some at a mexican restaurant. Then I am in pain afterward really regretting what I did!

Whey protein isolates are virtually lactose free. Just make sure you buy a reputable brand.
