I am having a problem. Even when I am trying to keep my sugar take in check I still end up failing miserably and going over by the bucket load. Any tips for keeping down sugar intake - it seems like its in everything! :(

If you are going over because of fruit thats ok, just try and keep the processed sugars down and you'll be fine!

Below is a link to something I posted a week or so ago. This might help you understand why you are always over your MFP sugar limits.

  • Make a list of things to eat to replace the sugar. Apples, orange slices, jello with fruit in it topped off with fat free, sugar free
whipped topping, then go to the store and buy it. Get the cookies and candy out of your house. You don't need it and your kids don't need it either. An occasional sweet will be more of a treat and taste better too if it's just that, occasional! Try it for one day, then two, Promise yourself one sweet a week..............

I'm having the same problem! I'm hypoglycemic (I just got diagnosed before the holidays), and my doctor wants me to have no more than 25-30 grams of sugar a day. I never realized how much sugar was in absolutely EVERYTHING I eat! Veggies are a good bet. Pickles and mild pepper rings also have very little sugar. Mustard is about the only condiment I've found that's somewhat healthy.

I'm having a really hard time finding a breakfast food that doesn't use up 1/3 of my sugar intake for the day. I like Kashi cereals, but they're relatively caloric and have more sugar than I'd like. :/

    Good luck!!!

Thank you for posting that link Crystal. It makes a lot more sense to track carbohydrates. I have friend who is a Type I diabetic and besides staying away from the obvious sugary stuff she closely watches her carbs. - I guess I just never really thought about it before. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it!

I feel like the more sugar I have the more I want
I have been trying to eat lots of protein and healthy fats with each meal...snack on low fat cheese sticks and a handful of nuts
I also found for me it is easier to curb my sugar intake when I only consume water/tea....even sugar free sweet drinks make me want more sugar/junk

Fiber 1 Honey Clusters is delicious, and has 6 grams of sugar/ cup. That's not bad compared to the others.

No problem! My dad is type 2 diabetic and he tracks his carbs, too. Even when his sugar is in check, if he has too many carbs his blood sugar will go up.

Thanks! I just found Quaker Oats low sugar maple and brown sugar oatmeal. It only has 4 grams of sugar and 120 cal so that's not bad either! Plus, oatmeal always fills me up in the AM.
