Relationship Challenge -- only one snack a night

Last night as I was trying to resist my evening snacking urge, I heard my husband raiding the kitchen for what seemed like the millionth time. He needs to control his evening eating to control his diabetes. I need to control mine for long-term health goals. Each kitchen rustle was driving me beserk. So out of my mouth came a challenge and to my surprise my husband accepted it. For the next two weeks, we can have one snack together, up to 250 calories, after dinner. Only one snack after dinner. We finished dinner an hour and a half ago. I am not hungry, but I WANT a snack. This is my last big bad food habit to attack. Success at this challenge and the ability to extend it will have huge impact our fitness. Can we do it?

I'll bump this once in the hopes that in the fast moving forums someone will give us a, "you can do it". If there are no comments, I'll post each day for two weeks with whether we succeeded or not. A little public accountability never hurts.0

You can absolutely do it - one great thing about logging for me was seeing where my "danger zones" were - for me, between coming home from work, and eating dinner a couple hours later. I think that tackling a specific time of day made a huge difference for me. Good luck!0

Well, 1st night of "only one snack" went well for me. Not so well for spouse. His blood sugar had been awry all day. We had one snack together at 9:30 p.m. He came to bed at about midnight and immediately was showing signs of low blood sugar (tested, it was in the 40s); so he did end up having a second snack. He tends to "overtreat" the lows so his blood sugar was high this morning. As of this morning we were both willing to give the "only one snack a night" another try tonight.
Tonight will be a big challenge for me as I have finished dinner and already want to compulsively snack. Evening over-snacking is my biggest bad food habit (of which I am aware) to conquer. So I must focus on success!0 -
Keep trying! I'm a type I diabetic, and I totally understand how crummy my eating can go after a day of screwy blood sugars. Having my partner on board for healthy eating is invaluable, so I'm sure you guys doing it togetehr will help you both succeed!0

I think it's great ya'll are working together on this! I know how hard it can be to have others in the house rustling in the fridge or pantry when you're trying so hard not to eat. Awesome job guys!0

Well, we've accomplished the "only one snack a night" goal three nights in a row. No positive impact on weight yet or on husband's blood sugar. But I think it will be a worthwhile habit once in place. It sure is nice not to be rooting around in the kitchen and not to hear someone else rooting around in the kitchen at night. Last night my snack was an aldi turkey meat stick and a rice cake. Tonight I am going to have a glass of milk and a brownie.0
