how do you lose fat and not muscle?

im a beginner and i need to know how do you lose fat and not muscle? i was told that if you don't get enough calories that your body burns muscle.

    This is my completely non-professional opinion, but from what I have learned just do not eat below your BMR and consume sufficient protein.

    Eat sufficient calories and include strength training.
