Leg pain during 30DS. Advice Please?

Hi everyone,
I am on Level 2, Day 4 of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. I've had great success already since beginning this program. During yesterday's workout I noticed a slight "tweaking" feeling just above my left kneecap. It wasn't a painful feeling, just like something felt a little tight in there. During tonight's workout I felt the same tightness, but it was painful. (Maybe a 2-3 out of 10) Not debilitating by any means. However, the absolute last thing I'd want is to injure myself. At this point it's minor, but worrisome enough that I'd like some input.

Anyone know what the pain is? If so, what should I do? Here is some more info that may be helpful:
I took 4 rest days in level 1. No pain or tightness in the area whatsoever.
I have taken 1 rest day this level. (Two days on, on day off, two days on)
Other than the 30DS, exercise is minimal.
I've never had any muscle/joint problems in the past.
I do have a rare skin disease that is believed to be an autoimmune disorder, but it is very minor and progresses very slowly.
Otherwise, medically very healthy.

Input is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

  • hi, you may have the same problem as me. It's called runner's knee or something. I'm not sure if you actually have this (of course), but that could be a start for more information. Here's a wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patellofemoral_pain_syndrome

mine developed because of overpronation while running and doing lots of squats and stuff. for me, the best thing would be to go to a podiatrist and rest/ do less running but more swimming which doesn't put strain on the knee. but this is for me.

my advice for you is to not do the exercise that hurt your knee, go see a doctor if it gets worse, and substitute those leg exercises for other ones (not sure which though... sorry! maybe mountain climbers or "cycling" in a candlestick?)

hope this helps in some way :)
