Stopping the slide into middle aged spread

Ok so not one of the fantastic transformations that I usually see on here; instead it's just a slight change from 'About to let oursleves go' to 'It's not too late to make the effort'

2006, a year after we got married. Happy and content and so we started to relax and not worry so much about being fit. We could so easily have gone downhill from there. We put the effort in though and feel as fit and healthy as ever. Looking forward to our 50s (Well - not dreading them anyway!)

    From a fellow 47 year old-- you guys look great!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

    wonder if your wife would share how many pounds a month she lost. Im 47 and my current is like her before pic. Things are going very slowly for me... about 1 pound every two weeks with lots of fluctuation.

    Lol I will share it for her as I have both our details on a spreadsheet

    We tend to gain and lose together, so here are our stats

    Begining of the year:
    Wife = 145
    Me = 165

    Now
    Wife = 129
    Me 149

    More importantly though, my wife is SO much stronger! She really was quite weedy and could barely lift the bar alone in the gym. She goes with me 3 times a week now and has got really nice muscle definition and is lifting more and more. Her biceps in particular were pathetic (sorry darling!) and she was as close to being able to do a full pull up as she was learning to fly! She is now so close and WILL do her first pull up EVER before she reaches the big 50

    I've just realised that I have committed two of the worse cardinal sins that a husband can commit - publicly revealing my wife's age AND weight! Dog house tonight?

    Thanks for posting! This is really helpful. Im right about where your wife was at when she started... and my husband is where you are at right now! LOL. (He is one of those freak people that at age 47 wears the same jean size he did in high school- lots of pressure to be married to someone like that!! ).

    By the way I think you may have committed another sin as you posted pics of her!!! LOL.

    Just tell her how fantastic she looks and how proud of her you are and you'll be out of that dog house!

    Thanks and congrats again !!

    Oh I am proud of her - she is amazing! great mum to 4 kids too!

    If you're where my wife was when she started then you're in pretty good shape too I expect, but like her, you probably want to go down a dress size, tone up, and lose some fat along the way. Good luck

    I did thanks. My wife winced - doesn't like looking at pictures of herself! However the comments were so nice that I got away with it :)
  • With a torso like that at the age of 47, you should be damn proud of yourself!

    I was really happy to see a post I could relate to (that is, not a huge amount of weight lost, but still a big transformation for both of you). Both of you look happy and fit! Congrats!

    I'm so glad you shared. I'm 44 now and between your wife's before and after. Its a great message for us as we're getting older. It's not too late to get into shape. I started at 42 yrs old and have lost 35lbs. My trainer is 47 and could easily win a bikini contest. Guess the point really is... Age is just a number.

    Congrats to both of you. You guys look amazing:)

    Thank you for sharing! I had slid into middle age spread (42 pounds worth) and am so glad to be back to the low end of my weight range! I am soon to be 54 and believe no matter what age, I need to be the most "fit" me I can be.

    Wow you both look great! We're both 47 too (me and hubby) and trying to also stop the slide into middle age! We're slowly getting there - losing some extra lbs and gaining some muscle! Doesn't it feel great to feel strong! WOOT!

    Yeah, hey, I see some amazing people and their stories on here - totally turning their life upside down to make huge changes and massive sacrifices to achieve their goals, and I couldn't have more respect for what they have done.

    The truth is, it wasn't that hard for us. Fairly fit, fairly active, ate fairly well - so we made some relatively small changes and got some small but noticable results; but the differences in how we feel are enough to make us realise that it's worth the extra effort

    I'm sure there are many middle-aged people that can relate - not totally unfit, not that overweight, but don't want to start puting on the lbs

    My wife sure thinks so - very proud of her newly formed muscles she is!

    We have plans fo rthe future and they all involve staying fit and active! For example we have only just tasted the pleasures of going skiing - we plan on many many more trips though

    I'm loving all the positive messages from you all, seems there are lots out there like us that want to stay fit in middle age - thanks
  • This is a great success story. You both look fantastic. My husband and I started lifting weights together over a month ago. We have already seen some wonderful changes, and it's quite exciting.

    So glad that your wife was okay with you posting because she and I are very similar.

    Congrats to you both!

    Middle age and beyond! We were out biking on Saturday and saw so many people in their 70's out and about on the trails! I want to be one of them too one day (just not too soon!)
