Sugar - What You Need To Know

I found two fantastic articles today on sugar. The American Heart Association has released guidelines regarding healthy intake levels of sugar. The other article lists the WORST and BEST sweeteners you can use. I just recently started using splenda but after reading this, I am going to make the switch to stevia and I am also going to buy all natural honey. I saw some at the Natural Food Pantry yesterday but it was quite expensive so I left it behind. I am going to pick some up this weekend though and start experimenting with honey in my coffee.

    Thanks for sharing.

I haven't finished the article yet but aside from the headache remark about Aspartame (which is legit, some people DO suffer from headaches), the cancer alarmism is a bit ridiculous.

Aspartame is just a combination of amino acids (phenylalanine and aspartic acid) and methanol is a digestive byproduct. These are all safe at dosage levels consistent with human consumption.

Steel, excuse for disagreeing a second on the logic but not the conclusion you made on Aspartame.

I can create a simple byproduct of that and make a well-know metabolite with very high cancerogenicity from phenylalanine - just snip that ring and you've got benzene. Aspartame, is safe at normal dosage, this conclusion should be made not solely on metabolites but because it is a highly tested product with no known cancer results. The proof is in the testing.

    It has been rigorously evaluated.

It isn't just because the digestive byproducts. I can give examples of products that are safe in one form and not in another due to things like surface charge, shape, etc... Talcum powder vs asbestos?

One place Aspartame should be avoided is for people with PKU as they cannot deal with it.
