tell me how you get your protein

I'm always short of my protein goal while my calories and carbs are pretty much dead on. I want more protein ideas.

I limit my meat intake, one meal a day, usually dinner, with a few veg dinners a week.

Most of my protein comes from beans, eggs, chickpeas, nuts and nut butters, tofu, tempeh, lentils, and low fat dairy. In terms of meat products, fish and seafood are my favorite, but I eat a fair amount of chicken as well. I'll eat pork and red meat, but pretty infrequently, as I've never been a big red meat person.

If I know I'm going to have a big calorie deficit, and therefore protein deficit for the day (like I'm going on an 8 mile run) I have whey protein that I'll add in smoothies or oatmeal to bump my protein intake a bit. I can also bake cakes and other baked goods with protein powder, for a nice treat.

Eggs, cottage cheese and small amounts of other cheeses, canned tuna, greek yogurt, and fish. Lots of fish. I'm not a tremendous meat eater. Oh and Quest protein bars. Greatest invention ever. I love em.

I eat meat at all my meals and almonds as part of my snacks. But I HAVE to do protein powder or I just don't come close!
  • Beans, nuts, peas, lentils, hemp (zucchini, potato, veggies, fruits, nutritional yeast, ground flax all add up too in their smaller amounts.)

Homemade protein bar for breakfast (20g), chicken salad or chicken sandwich for lunch (20-30 g), deviled egg and cheese as midday snacks (15 g), protein shake on lifting days (60 g), and dinner that contains at least 30 g (this isn't too hard with a serving of meat, especially chicken or fish). If I'm low, I make dessert out of a fruity greek yogurt and a scoop of whey protein (another 35 grams).
