Just let me vent. (=
So I babysit/tutor for a living while I'm in college because my school schedule is so rigid. I belong to many sites and someone posted looking for a babysitter saying they were only willing to pay $6/hour. First off, I live in Florida, the minimum wage right now is 7.67/hour and by law, even for just a babysitter, you're required to pay them at least minimum wage because it IS a job. I emailed the woman to let her know this and she got offended that I was trying to give her a heads up. She replied with well thanks for the heads up, but I've gotten over 20 replies wanting to apply and next time you're not willing to apply to a job, keep your opinion to yourself and I'll make sure to tell my friend Ashley that you worked for to write a review for you....
Uh...I didn't reply to her with this, but in all honesty, that was out of line. Would you pay your babysitter, to keep your precious child/children safe, less than you should? It's kinda like not tipping your waiter, if you go back to that restaurant, they're going to remember you and remember that you don't tip/pay well and they aren't going to give you the best service. I am not going to say that I've neglected a child because the parents are stupid, I have done no such thing, BUT I do not see the point in paying your babysitter significantly less than you should. Even if you're low on money, most babysitters will work out a flat rate instead of an hourly rate. Also, in the area we live in(she lives like 8 miles from me) the average rate for child care is $12.50/hour.
/deep breath
Some people absolutely infuriate me.
It's really sad that people will pay more for you to watch their dog than their own children!
/end rant
