If my daily calorie allowance is 1200, but it increases after I add my exercises, does this mean I have to eat for the full calories it gives me i.e. 1700 or can I still stick to just 1200 and still lose weight?

I know if you don't stick to your calorie target per day and is constantly under you might not loose weight due to your body going into starvation mode etc. So this is why I'm asking: if I stick to my 1200 per day instead of the 1700 per day after adding my exercises, will my body still go into starvation mode?

Please help!

It all depends on your body. The experts will tell you that you can safely eatback your exercise calories. This didn't work for me. I was maintaining a consistent weight by doing this. The path that I have chosen is when I work out, If I can't stay under my "non-workout" calorie count, I don't go more than half on the excercise calories.

My body however tells me where I'm at on this based on hunger. Some days, if I just haven't had enough protein and carbs, I have to eat back to continue to fuel my body. On other days, it's a lot easier. I've learned you have to listen to your body. If you are continually hungry, the chances of going in a quasi "starvation" mode is greater. But if you feed for fuel as needed, you should be alright. Just my 2 cents from a non-expert.

Except that very often people stop getting hungry when they aren't eating enough. :ohwell:

It depends on how you got to that 1200 for your target. You'll hear a lot of people say "everyone is different" or "you have to find what works for you". Unless you have some outsanding health issues, this is false. Our bodies are remarkably similar in how they react to nutrition and exercise, and there is science behind certain recommendations.

But back to your question... read this for a full explanation.

While that's probably the case here, and generally the case for MFP users, it's not that simple.

Or feel hungry all day long (which is how many of us ended up on this site in the first place).
