huge difference in scales

staying in a hotel and hit the gym this morning...woo hoo. the best part was that the "professional" scales showed a huge difference in weight. LIke 40 pounds difference...

two questions:
1) Is this normal? I tared the scales and everything.
2) Can I take these scales home with me?
