Pre Race diet

Hi all,
I would really appreciate some suggestions about what to eat before running a 5k!
I started MFP in July and have been lifting 3 days a week with cardio 5 days a week. Im down 25 pounds and feeling like im ready for the warrior dash in Missouri this weekend. Its a 5k with mud and assorted obsticals.
My wife and I both started our training and MFP so we could get in shape for this race and we could use some suggestions on out diets leading up to the race this Saturday. Should I bump up my calories intake for the next few days above the 1250 limit or stay where i am? We eat lots of fruit and veggies and rarely meats, should i change that to have more protein to burn?
We worked hard and want to make sure that we are not going to cramp up because of poor eating on race day so any suggestions would be great!

Hello,
for a 5k, you probably don't need to up the calorie intake. i would however, recommend adding more carbs for a couple of days as these are the runners' friend!
if you stick to the type of eating you do before a similar-distance training run, you should be fine. Also, don't go overboards on sports drinks - half a bottle (diluted with water, if you want more liquid) should be more than enough to push you through a 5k.
good luck and enjoy!0 -
I don't think you really need to do anything different for that distance. Maybe make sure you don't eat too much fiber so you don't have stomach issues, but you definitely don't need to carb-load or anything like that.0
