I have a question about breast feeding- not for me a friend of mine. I helped her figure out her BMR etc.. but how much extra does she need because of breast feeding ?

You burn an extra 300-500 calories a day breast feeding I believe.

My wife will put in 550 calories worth of running everyday in the exercise section. She put a lot of time and research into getting that data. So I hope it’s right :)

500 calories if the baby is still exclusively breastfed. :)
  • That sounds about right. Also, tell your friend not to get too discouraged with her weight loss. For some women, breastfeeding just melts the pounds away. Not me! I breastfed both of my children an average of two years, and didn't really lose the weight until they were weaned. Within one month of weaning, I lost fifteen pounds, without changing my diet or exercise. I believe lactation hormones keep you a little more 'padded', so your body isn't stressed too much by breastfeeding.
