Building Muscle?

I have done a lot of workout where push ups or weights are involved and I still can't last through the whole session of the dvds. I have to stop, because my arms are killing me and I can't lift them any longer, while the girls on the video is still doing it with a smile. So what am I doing wrong? I should be strong enough to do all of those by now! I drink protein shakes occassionally! EAS or Muscle Milk for example.

I don't think the protein bars/ shakes/ supplements are needed, if you diet has adequate protein. HOWEVER...I do make an occaisional protein shake, just because.
I've been working out since at least April, tryna build a bigger chest, and not much to show for it...but I can feel the baby pecs coming in around the edges of my chest, near my arms...so I continue to work out...i know I'll eventually get killer pecs.0 -
Regardless of your supplementation you have to remember that the people on the workout DVD's are experienced athletes and were picked to be on there for a reason. I like supplemental protein and amino acids for muscle recovery but don't think that it will make you stronger or bigger, it's not steroids.
Keep at it and use their level of performance as a goal or better yet, set intermediate goals so that you don't get discouraged in the mean time. You are less likely to get frustrated and quit if you are improving every time.
I had to teach myself to do pullups, in February I could barely do 1, now I am doing sets of 5 and 6 with a smile. I still can't pound out 20 like some of the guys I know but it's a hell of a lot better than it was 7 months ago. This kind of progress takes time and dedication and there really aren't any shortcuts.
Hang in there and remember you're doing a hell of a lot more than 100% of the people out there who aren't doing anything and are just letting themselves go thinking they can just wish themselves healthy.0 -
push ups is a good form of excersise, but its an excersise no one has ever heard before0

Thanks for the responses and for letting me know that those people are trained athletes. Now I don't feel so bad, that I am not on their level. I also thought that the protein shakes were to build muscle, no wonder it wasn't working. Ok, well .....I just keep at it, in time hopefully I can get stronger.0
