Any PCOS ladies here? Befriend Me!

Hey Everyone,

My name is Sarah and although I've been a member for a little bit (got the BB app then deleted it) I have just started to really use this site a few days ago. I've been suffering from PCOS and all its lovely symptoms since 2007 and really would love the support of people going through the same issues.

My major issues are:
- Hypertension
- Heart Palpitations
- Weight Gain (60Lbs in total)
- Hormonal roller-coaster of acne and unscheduled cycles

Have you started a specific diet? Exercise? Whatever it is let me know. I'm open to any healthy, preferably natural suggestions.

Hello! I suffer from PCOS also. I am just getting back into MFP after trying a detox cleanse that I am hoping helps out with my PCOS. My friends has had great results from it...she is actually pregnant with twins after trying for years! I am not sure if those are the results I want  but I am hoping this helps me!!! I would love to be your friend on here! I also have a motivational group for health and fitness on facebook if anybody wants to join! Just send me a message!

I just found out about a month ago. I took the advice of some ladies on MFP and went grain free a couple of weeks ago. The scale has finally started to move. I get all of my carbs from fruit and dairy and treat myself to a nice meal out once a week witih grains. This week is Mexican! Good luck and feel free to add me. Also I suggest doing lots of research about PCOS and diet. I learned alot my doctor did not know.

I'm so happy your your friend. I think having my specialist tell me that I might not be able to have kids was the most depressing moment in my life. I will definitely add you. Oh and this detox sounds interesting...
  • Thank-you so much for the warm welcome. I'm really excited to have all of your backs and vice versa. I've been playing around with grain-free for the past month or so, but I'm really trying to turn it up a notch and go completely processed sugar free (not even stevia). I'm down another pound today, but my weigh in day is Sunday so fingers crossed its not just water weight.

Hi I suffer from PCOS also...WATER, WATER, WATER!!! Limit yourself on carbs and sugar even the sugar free stuff. Natural is the best way to go. I am horrible at doing what I know to do, I have done so much research and I know so much about it but I just don't like doing it. I LOVE FOOD!! I love my sweets and carbs!! With PCOS that is what gets you in trouble. Watch your intake to keep your insulin level down Web md will tell you so much. Really it's all about cutting out carbs and sugar and drinking plenty of water, unless you have other health issues.
  • Add me to :) I have PCOS and am managing without drugs. It's a hard road, but easier with friends :)

Welcome! I have PCOS also and all I can say work is limiting refined carbs and exercise. This is a great place to be to get support. It's not always an easy road but it can be done.
  • Hi! I also suffer from PCOS. I was told I would probably never conceive children and after 2 and a half years I got pregnant wiht my beautiful daughter. I have now been trying for 3 years with no success. My new Dr. really was so encouraging and suggested that I start counting my calories and exercising to see if I could loose 60 pounds then we would try again! I am 30 pounds down and feeling great! Since begining the journey, my cycles are completely regular, and all of my other symptoms have disappeared:) Excited to met all u ladies and encourage u along your journey!
  • HI! add me too! i used to be about 270 and am down to about 195. long way, but long way to go too!

I learned to live as if I was a diabetic and it HELPED! unbelievable. unfortunately, it turns out that I actually did develop diabetes in addition to the pcos. but it was probably going to happen no matter what. Im healthier now than i have been in the last 20 yrs, so i must be doing something right.

:) will probably need reminders of that little detail on my bad days tho

    No beard? Lucky you! ;-)

My sister and I are both sufferers of PCOS....she actually had to go on Metformin (sp?)...but I have been fortunate enough to avoid meds and have been blessed with three children. She struggled with getting pregnant, but was able to have children in the long run-- but still suffers significantly from symptoms.

I think you are on the right track with trying to stay healthy in every other regard...I like to think that has been to my benefit.

I too have PCOS, lost 60 pounds about 7 years ago and unfortunately gained it back and THEN got PG on my own at 40 (after previously taking fertility drugs and surgery and then giving up). It was a huge suprise, but the best of my life...he's 5 1/2 now. :o)
So those of you that are hoping to get PG, it CAN happen!
  • I also have PCOS- But haven't tried medication as of now.

I also have PCOS and have struggled with weight loss. I am about to take a TTC break and concentrate on weight loss so any pointers anyone can give me would be a good and welcome help. Also feel free to add me :)
  • I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 18 in 1984. Terrible, debilitating periods, cysts that would burst etc. Married in 1989, had 1st miscarriage 1990, had my son in 1991, another miscarriage in 1992 and eventually a partial hysterectomy in 2001. I think if I had been followed by a high risk pregnancy dr, I may have had more than one child. The most interesting thing that I've found with PCOS is that I truly believe that the cyst (albeit through hormones) feed on what I eat. For example, I've been on a no white diet for quite a while. No flour, no sugar etc. Several years ago, there was a cyst on my remaining ovary that was 4 inches in diameter. I went on this no white diet and the thing shrunk. My gyn couldn't believe it! I'm now a "case study". I drink lots of water and NEVER consume anything with artificial sweetener. PCOS does have an affect on weight gain, but so did the bad things I used to consume. I've been on MFP since July and am really motivated to get this weight off. The best way to deal with PCOS is to consume healthy foods. LOTS OF WATER!

I feel your pain. Just keep trying to find that one dr/specialist who truly understand this disease and can give you the best guidance. I'm happy to be your MFP friend.

Hey! I also have PCOS! Since I was about 21 I think, but it was only diagnosed when I fell pregnant (which was a miracle btw, I never thought that would happen in a million years!) I've lost some weight and have some sort of cycle now at least - fingers crossed I can get pregnant again next year :D

Feel free to add me - we need all the support we can get, its so much harder with this condition!

I have PCOS too. I have noticed some quite significant improvements in some of my symptoms just by reducing my weight.

Any of you feel free to add me

  • Hi Sarah,

I have PCOS too. It often leads to Insulin Resistance, or perhaps the Insulin Resistance leads to PCOS..
Best thing for it is a high protein, low carb diet.
I have been to see an endocrinologist and this is what is recommended. Plus daily walk.
OR medication, and I think if we can do it with diet and exercise, then better to give that a go rather than pump the body full of drugs (IMHO).

I could not conceive naturally, had an IVF baby (now 13), but with proper low carb diet it can get under control. When I was at my lowest weight of 60kg, all my PCOS symptoms disappeared. Which is great motivation to lose weight!

I have it too, since I was 16. I was diagnosted with Diabetes earlier this year, I have always had the feeling that its the PCOS and not diabetes. Regardless, they are treated the same, I just dont like that label. My weight went up every year, and I never cared to change anything. Im not on Metformin and the weight is coming off, without much effort ( I am trying my best to eat low carb, I have given up sugar for the most part). I lost 37 lbs before joining MFP, a total of 53 in 7 months. I havent had symptoms in years, everything has been regular for me, no children though. Its nice to see there are so many of you out there who also share this. Please feel free to add me.

si also suffer with pcos trying to lose the weight as ttc also getting married in 2014 so need to lose as much as poss feel free to add me
  • I'm so excited (slash saddened) to see that there are so many PCOS suffers here. Excited because that means that we're taking steps to better our lives whether it be through lifestyle changes, medication or both. Obviously it still totally sucks that there are so many of us suffering.

After reading over the responses I wanted to add a little background in terms of my medications. I've been on birth control (didn't go well and I was angry/sad/emotional the whole time I was on it), Metformin (I'm told I'm insulin resistant) but I didn't like that after a year because it's really not a cure so much as a cover-up in my opinion. I'm currently taking Diovan HTC for my hypertension and Lopressor for my palpitations.

I'm reading that alot of you ladies have done grain/white/carb restricting diets and that's basically what I'm trying to do now along with trying to exercise daily. Anyways I really appreciate all the love and support and can't wait to return it.

    Xo,

    Sarah
