Question: How do you set your goals?

So far I've just been eating/exercising just to see some sort of difference.
I feel like being organized by having a goal weight&date would help a ton.

SO-How do you guys set your goal weights?
I know keeping the jumps small & realistic is key but what's the best way to determine it?

Any response would be fabulous :)

My scale number and body fat number are what I was the last time I was really satisfied with the way I looked.

If I had never been there before I would probably look at something like www.mybodygallery.com and look at others with similar heights and body types and see what the weight is of those that you want to look like.

    That's the best I've got!

I have like three different sets of goals haha.
    1) I have small weight loss goals, broken into chunks of 5-10lbs to keep me going so I don't look at how big the total is
    2)I have an end goal
3)I have measurment and size goals.

For my total I'm estimating based on the size I was five years ago. At that point I was 180 and a 14 and aside from some stomach pudge pretty good. I say I would like to be 180 again but without the pudge, more muscle. Muscle weighs more, so I didn't want to set a goal lower than that until I get closer. I started with 130lbs to lose so it's hard to guess.

I just chose a goal weight that sounded reasonable for someone my height. As I get closer I'll let me body tell me where it wants to be in terms of weight. The number on the scale isn't as important to me as how I feel and look.

Erienneb: I literally just wrote out my small goals, haha. Much better to dwell on than bigger ones. Thank you!
Gregcharland: So so true. Since I'd like to be smaller than I have ever been, it's hard for me to tell where I'd want to be. Your insight is extremely helpful.
  • I have broken my goals in to 5 lb mini goals. This way I am still hitting goals and it keeps me motivated.

My initial goal was to get out of the "overweight" range for my height. Now, I'm more focused on lowering my bf% and how I look. I re-assess every so often, but I don't really have a pre-determined final goal weight.
  • I set my goal ticker on here for the end goal, but in my bio I wrote down my small goes and the dates I reach them (none have been reached..yet..just started) . Glad you're here. You've got plenty of support here. :)

Btw. Looking at your picture, you're gorgeous.

Well, having been on a gazillion diets before, I know what weight I feel and look pretty good at, so I base my goal on that. Also, I seem to only be able to get down to a certain point, and then the scale refuses to budge any more. This time (and I'm praying it's the last time!) I set my goal a few pounds higher than my lowest adult weight. As I have become older (49) I have found it more difficult to lose weight, so I don't want to set an unrealistic goal for myself. Now, if I can get down to my current goal, I will probably adjust it down a few pounds at anime and see of I can get to where I'd REALLY like to be.

My profile is open, so you can see my goals. I didn't have any (other than goal weight) until a couple of weeks ago. I am good with long term stuff, but I struggle with creating short-term goals.
