Spiders

My MIL, KNOWING that I hate spiders, decorated for Fall this year and put 2 of those giant wired hairy black/orange spiders at each pillar of the steps to their front door. I bring my daughter their every morning so I noticed these two giant spiders and mentally noted their prominent placement but said nothing. They’re wire spiders, not real ones. She decorates for every holiday but never for Halloween because she's not a fan of the scary stuff. She likes the cute faced ghosts and leaves and happy scarecrows. I just KNEW the spiders were for me.
It was raining this morning and as I left the house after dropping my daughter off my umbrella knocked one of the giant spiders off. I saw it fall, picked it up and placed it at the top of the steps so she could put it back up later on. I texted her on my walk to the train "One of those lovely spiders you put up outside got taken out by my umbrella " She just responded with "I put them there just for u" Isn't she a peach? My response was "I figured as much...thanks"
**I get along very well with my MIL, this is just how she is and I know that and accept it. She would do this to her own children, not just me.**
What are you fearful of that people openly tease you about?

Spiders. I don't go all girly and scream. I literally freeze. I go into panic mode and don't move....it's horrible. My husband doesn't tease me about it, but my friends have.
Also, heights. Well, falling from a horrible height, actually. But I don't get teased too much about that one.0 -

Oddly enough, pictures of them don't really bother me much. If it was near me, I'd scream like a little bish and run for the hills.0

I love to look at them behind thick glass or in pictures but keep them away from me, otherwise. I have goosebumps now!0 -

my Mom is like your MIL...and she's an equal opportunist...and with 5 kids and almost all of us with various partners and the like...and the grandchildren...she has an ENDLESS supply of torture victims...
My daughter hates being tickled...my mother will deliberately invite her to have a sleep over...which my daughter will jump at the opportunity...i mean...really an overnight of Grandma spoiling? Of COURSE she's in...
then mom will invite her to sleep with her like a sleep over, they will cuddle, read stories, play Nintendo DS's together and once Josie's asleep mom will wait till about 2 am....
and start tickling the **** out of her....
The next day without fail I'll get a text from my daughter..."remind me to say no to sleepovers with Nana Ri next time"
she's gotta learn....there is no rest for the wicked...
and me? I stay away....I've been duped enough.0 -
<----grown man, terrified of spiders!!!!! Dont even know why, lol. I think it must be the fact that they can crawl on you in the middle of the night and you wont even know it....and the very few that are poisonous to humans can bite you without you even knowing it and poof, your central nervous system freaks out, you go into convulsion's and have to have a limb amputated!! uummm, NO THANKS, I can do without spiders, lmao.0

I live in Florida and have experiened the following in the last year:
Garage - brown widow - decided to spray it with wasp spray since it was in the garage.
Outside house - huge orb weaver - big hairy orange/black spider. It spun the web at night and than ate the web in the morning so had nor problems at all with it. Actually enjoyed going out in the back yard to watch it spin the web at night.
In house - worst part. Sitting on couch and a huge wolf spider crawled over my leg and on the floor. It was almost thinking I was dreaming. I went to the cubbard and got a container and was still wondering if I imagined it but there it was on the floor. Was able to capture it.
I have pics of a three spiders. Will have to post later. The widow freaked me out the most and actually had dreams of waking up to a spider crawling on me. But after the orb weaver - never had any issues like that. They are way more afraid of us than them.0 -

 This is why I don't even bother trying to dispose of or even kill spiders (I make someone else do it). I'm so paranoid it will jump on me, or crawl up my leg if I try to step on it.
*shuddering*0 -
I don't like the spiders that have long, pokey legs (think giant versions of daddy long-legs). Those get smooshed. Other spiders get captured and moved outside. Yesterday, I had a spider pull a SWAT manuever onto my face (glasses specifically). I yelped, then pushed my chair back and he scampered back up his thread. Most of the time, I don't mind spiders because they eat what really freaks me - insects: hard-shelled beetles, crane flies (worst part of living in Nfld), wasps, etc..
What scares me is being in a high place with either floor-to-ceiling windows or rickety rails and people pushing at me. I'm not afraid of heights so much as being shoved off. People don't understand and, imo, deliberately brush against me. :grumble:0 -
I totally got pwned by a spider this morning
There has been this garden spider living in the kitchen of my house, and i don't care because when summer nears it gets hot so flies come in and bug me...so i let him stay
So anyways. i wake up and grab my smokes and head for the sliding door to go out and have a smoke
I'm two feet away from the door when i walk into his web, and it scares the **** out of me cause i'm still half asleep
I stumble back and bump into the couch, flip over it as i lose my footing, and my legs crash into the coffee table, effectively splitting it in two
I'm laying there figuring out what just happened, and the spider bites my nose!
Like HE'S having a bad day0 -

No joke. I make artificial limbs for a living, and one of our patients lost her her leg from a black widow bite :frown:0 -

WOW...I was born in Florida but didnt grow up there...kinda glad I didnt. Although here in Texas we have black widow's and Brown Recluse spiders...two out of only a few that are poisonous to humans-hardly ever see them though.
" ..more afraid of us than we are of them .." I beg to differ, lmao.0 -

Maybe rarely, but I doubt never... What about when I'm swimming in a big pool? Or in the Antarctic? And before someone pulls out the "You swallow x amount of spiders in your sleep every year" quote, I'll just say maybe YOU do, but I sleep with my mouth shut0 -
Moths suck!0
