Which way to go?

There are so many forums out there about cutting fat, cutting carbs, cutting calories, only drinking certain shakes for a certain period of time, working out, etc. and they can all be very confusing. I was just wondering if anybody would like to give their input on what worked for them? Like, specifically sticking to calories but not controlling carbs or fat... or if someone only watched cutting carbs but didn't pay attention to calories? Just looking for some input on what worked for everyone?

I pay most attention to calories as I count throughout the day, then once a week or so I will scroll my Diary to see what days I was too low on protein, too high on fats, etc. and make decisions about daily habits from there. I can't do fads like shakes, etc because I develop a fear (probably unnecessary) of gaining when I return to regular food. I exercise some, but not on a regular schedule. Mainly walking or jogging, maybe a video jere and there. I don't do weights because I have small children who exhaust me from 7 am - 8 pm. I hope to put on muscle when they get older and I can focus more. So for now, i keep it simple and just eat back most of the calories I burn on exercise days0
