So for 4 weeks I was being very stringent with diet and exercise and doing everything by the books. The scale barely budged 2 lbs and I was getting very frustrated. My husband threw me a surprise birthday party a few weeks ago and there was TONS of cake left over. In a week I ate it all, like all 10,000 calories of it. And the leftover cake from my work birthday party. And the leftover cake from my birthday dinner. And copious trips to McDonalds and the like. Even though all I wanted to do was continue on that spiral, I got back on the wagon. I hadn't weight myself in over a week and was expecting the scale to show a huge increase. Oddly enough, I was down a pound! Over the past week of eating right, I've lost 3 more pounds. What gives?? Is this bizzaro world?

Sometimes letting yourself indulge is the kickstart your metabolism needs. Taking in lots of calories all at once when your body has become used to a lower amount can give you the reboot you need if you're in the middle of a plateau. I'm glad it worked out for you, and congrats on the loss!

That's why I like Tim Ferriss' Slow Carb diet. One day a week is cheat day where you can eat what you want. It provides a release and an easy way to resist temptation during the week. I keep a little note of things I crave and tell myself "you can have that on Saturday"

After being on it for a few months I find that some weeks I can get away with one cheat meal (though I make it a big one!)
