diet programs HELP

i need a diet to follow. i understand the concept of eating healthy and hope to be able to do it by myself but at this point in my life i need rules and regulations as to what to eat. the problem is i'm not sure what diet to follow. i'm a single mom and i cook for my boyfriend who doesn't need to diet. i'm thinking slim fast but i know i'd probably want to kill someone for a real piece of food after the first day . any suggestions? what has worked for ya'll? thanks.
