OK I found a TDEE and BMR calculator. this is not making sense at all.
I think I am so fat that these calculators are incorrectly calculating my values.
it says my BMR is 3600 and my TDEE is 4300 (no exercise desk job)
this is insane. there is no way I should be eating 4300 cals a day. what am I doing wrong?
am I going to hurt myself eating 2000 cals a day? crap at 2000 cals a day I can eat almost anything I want within reason.
something is hinky with these numbers help me out here.
6'4" male 450+ pounds (estimate as a 450 pound scale err's when I stand on it so I am not sure what I weigh probably between 450-460)
suggestions? I want to maximize weight loss regardless of the discomfort BUT NOT to the point of harming myself IE I want to do it safe but I am willing to suffer a little to get it.
otherwise I am going to be dead at this weight. that is a guarantee.

I found this article very helpful with my questions about the same thing.

If you know your goal weight do a TDEE for that - then pick a number between that your current numbers - you can not go wrong with so much to loose...0

Those numbers sound about right. Your TDEE is how many calories you've probably ingesting this whole time (assuming you have been maintaining that weight).
As you have a lot to lose your goal of 2,000 calories sounds reasonable.0 -
2000 calories a day isn't always a lot. Depends on what you eat.
I had TWO slices of cheese pizza for dinner last night which was HALF my allowed calories a day. If I had 2 slices of cheese pizza 3x a day, I'd not only be over my goal calories, but over my TDEE as well!
Conversely, days I choose significantly healthier options, I can eat much much more.
6'4" and 450 pounds... you must burn a lot of energy just being that size! You're a foot taller than me! I think it is more the fact most people THINK they eat significantly fewer calories than they actually do.0 -

Forget about discomfort and suffering. It's over rated and not necessary. You'll see.0 -
I just did this...trying to work through an annoying month-long plateau. Your numbers sound about right.
I'm 6'5" and 330. My BMR is 2402 (Katch-McArdle), and my TDEE under Lightly Active is 3950.
I just reset my MFP daily goal at 3150; over 1000 cals above what MFP originally calculated for me.0 -
so board consensus. is 2000 cals a day safe? advised?
I don't feel hungry on 2000cals a day in fact every now and then I end up under cals (when I eat healthier)
if you guys tell me thats ok I will keep doing that. if you say I need more fine if you say I need less fine.
I just want to maximize my weight loss. I am sick and tired of being fat :-)
wow MFP told me to do 2900 cals a day. (I guess because I am heavier) I thought that was nuts. I estimate I was eating 3800-4500 cals a day previously. and I was maintaining weight approximately.0 -
I'm just a bozo on the web but I say go with it. If you're tired or hungry, or not loosing, adjust it again.0

I think 2000-2500 is probably reasonable for your size. Less if you are older, more if you are under 30.0 -

If MFP is saying 2900cals then why not just go with that?0 -

2000 calories a day not too little with a sedentary lifestyle. If you exercise (and you should) eat more to fuel the exercise. Your BMR is so high because your body has to work so hard to accomodate the extra weight. It will drop as your weight drops.0 -
I say Keep It Simple.
You can cut your calories significantly at your weight. 2000 will be fine. Make it 2000 good, nutritious calories, no junk foods.
See your doctor to get some supplements. You need this weight off yesterday. You have plenty of fuel in all those fat stores, and really all you need is proper nutrition. You could do it on less than 2000, but you really need a doctor's help to manage your supplements when you get really low like that.
If you were maintaining 450 pounds, I think you were eating way more than you think. I eat 2000, and it's hard to stay there, and I'm a 55 year old woman who weighs 160.0
