Shins hurting after walking or running

My shins always hurt after I walk for a long period of time. I don't walk very fast. I also have flat feet which I think might affect it because don't your arches supposed to absorb the impact of your feet hitting the ground? Please reply.

Go to Runner's World or some other quality fitness shoe store. They will help you find the kind of shoes you need for the feet you have. Quality shoes make the world of difference.

    Shin Splits. I recommend:
    Get New Shoes
Rest a bit and ice those shins.

It can be your shoes or that you are just not used to it. I think for me it was both. I got awesome shoes and kept running/walking 3-4 days a week and never had them again. At first I did wrap my skins with sports tape and wrap because I had some issues prior to getting the new shoes. You can do that too.

I went to the ER last night because my left shin was hurting so bad I couldn't walk on it. It was shin splints. I was told to stay off the treadmill for about 3 wks. I did ride the stationary bike tonight and that didn't cause any discomfort, so that's going to be my cardio for a bit. I was also told not to do any squats or deadlifts, or anything that might aggravate it, but I can do other lifting. I've been icing it and taking some pain meds.

I highly suggest resting them and taking it easy for a while. I thought I would "power" through it, but that didn't work out so well for me.

Shin splints are usually caused by wearing the wrong shoes, so I would go get fitted at a running store. Until then, rest and ice.

My shins and feet hurt too until I got proper running shoes. I went to a proper shoe shop that has you run on a treadmill so they can see how you land on your foot etc. Expensive but worth it.

Well, i have tried the rolling pins etc like my trainer said and they didn't help a lot for me. My friend recommended this article tho...

and swears by it! I have NOT tried it myself, but it couldn't hurt.

shoes might not fit right you also might not be stretching good enough before and after your walk/run when i get shin splints a good stretch to use which sounds kinda dumb is drawing the alphabet in the air with your big toe you'll definatly feel it also freeze a water bottle and roll out the area hurting you. You can also use a lacrosse ball/foam roller but ice helps alot too so it's kinda multi-taskin
