Heavy lifting beginners advice

Hello MFPal's!
I am going to start lifting next week and wondered if anyone out there had any pointers or advice to give me. I want to start using weights not machines but I don't want to look like an idiot standing there with a dumbell. I am looking around for the NROL4W but don't want to use it as an excuse not to start because I don't have the book. I have no idea where to start and would be very grateful for any advice anyone can give!
Hope you all have a fantastic day!

Here's stage 1 of NROLFW. Warm up by doing the routine with a low weight first. Be careful with form -ask a gym trainer if you're not sure.

Great link BerryH
I got the sample of NROL4W on my kindle to see what it was like but it obviously didn't show the routines and I wanted to get an idea of what I'd be committing to before getting the book0 -
i just bought the book £4.50 off Amazon, still reading it and hope to start in a couple of weeks )0

If you're going to a Gym, you should get a free assessment/program written for you when you sign up.0

The NROL4W is a great place to start also StrongLifts 5x5 (google it and you can get the workout for free). Just make sure you start low weights (even if you can lift heavier) go up gradually (2.5 - 5 lbs) each time you do that lift. Make sure you get good form/technique (the reason you start lower weights) to avoid injury. Good Luck you will love the results you get!0

Heavy lifting beginners advice
Obviously you are freakishly strong, but start light....let yourself get acclimated to lifting and gradually build up your lifting weight. You don't want to risk injuring yourself lifting too heavy and setting yourself back, which can cause frustration and you not to lift at all. Patience grasshopper.0 -

Hahaha! I see how you could have gone there... what I meant was weight lifting beginners advice but had just read something on heavy lifting and obviously my brain and fingers forged an alliance and forced me to write Heavy lifting... anyway.. please keep the freakishly strong bit to yourself .. I don't want everyone to know I'm actually superhuman...0 -

read and watch everything you can on form. It's more important than weight. Form. Form. Form.
Especially the big lifts.0
